A technology based site, yes. But as you put it, let's "be real". They are capitalizing on all the Pokemon rage right now. I bet their website visits have never been higher because of all the new readers that are only coming here to read about Pokemon GO. Nothing wrong with that; they gotta make money somehow, and I'm sure all the GO players appreciate it. As I am not one of those players, I find myself uninterested in being notified every time there's a hint of news about Pokemon GO. I come here for the "Mac" rumors after all.

Then maybe, Sir, don't click on the post, unless you feel compelled to click on everything on a site. Actually, in real life, my uncle clicks, complains, clicks, complains...ad nauseum. We tell him to stop clicking and move on...but, he just likes complaining, doesn't feel it's time wasted, tho he's retired, so there you go.

No update yet here in Kenya.

The members complaining about MC have a point; this is essentially an Apple products site. But Pokemon Go is all the rave and it certainly draws much traffic to the site. Let's just say the game is a bait

MacRumors post as many articles about it as you want. There are millions of people playing the game.

No one is forcing all you guys to read the articles - just skip them if you're not interested.

Instead though you took the time to log in and comment... Maybe you are secretly interested and don't want to admit it?
Well first off, I was already logged in. Second off, the reason why I commented was because I clicked this post out of curiosity and then got annoyed after reading the post. It's easy to make a comment so no I didn't "take my time" to comment. Also, as much as a Pokemon fan I am, I think that you really shouldn't go off-topic in a news site like this: this is primarily about Apple and Macs. Pokemon GO has almost nothing to do with Apple. Too much is annoying.

Then you are saying macrumors site itself posts off-topic news posts. Granted.
Pokemon Go is also released on iOS so posting news related to it is not entirely off-topic. Furthermore, why every single post should explicitly be Directly or indirectly related to Apple? *cough*

Geez all this hate for Pokemon articles.

stop complaining at the MR editors , they got jobs and stories to publish on a daily basis , write to TC and Apple and have a go at them for the state of Apple innovation the moment.

Apple related news is so dull at the moment , we are going to get a lot more non Apple stuff , and this is one go the most popular apps on iOS ...

What I meant is the amount of posts regarding Pokemon Go. Look, if they were to make a post about Go's release, maybe something related to Go's popularity, that's fine, as long as it's in the iOS Blog of course. I just think that having a thread about a specific update causing specific problems is a bit irrelevant to a forum like this. If something is off-topic (that is, anything non-tech related), it needs to be talked about not too much, especially avoiding specifics (eg. Pokemon Go band gets high in price, new update for Pokemon Go, people concerned about Google's access to Pokemon Go, etc.)

I come here for the "Mac" rumors after all.

You've been sucked in by the name. This site evolved (many years ago) from just "Mac" Rumors. From their blurb:

"MacRumors attracts a broad audience of both consumers and professionals interested in the latest technologies and products. We also boast an active community focused on purchasing decisions and technical aspects of the iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Mac platforms."

Something like r/Mac may be more to your taste.

What's really annoying is that in the four hours since this has been posted the Reddit user has posted updates multiple times and has since realized the issue is not nearly as bad as first expected. Making this post essential worthless.

But problem here is if a forum is too specific, then there would not be that much people browsing it, or registering as a member.
Pokemon Go was released on iOS, and its release is phenomenal. This one is large enough to be picked as topic across all tech forums unless otherwise.
Sometimes we should not limit ourselves too much on one thing.

I'm guessing you've got a false sense of what MacRumors is about, because according to the site itself:

"MacRumors attracts a broad audience of both consumers and professionals interested in the latest technologies and products. We also boast an active community focused on purchasing decisions and technical aspects of the iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Mac platforms."

Considering GO is on almost every news program (online and on TV), EVERY SINGLE DAY, I would classify it as the "latest technology and product".

Dang it, dude...we both had the same idea!! :)

I just don't get this application at all. So many bugs, yet they keep opening it up to more locations. The GPS built into the game is coded incorrectly and your character can stand in one spot having pokemon just flock to it. You don't have to walk anywhere, you can stand in one spot and things happen. And people can't login after a so called "fix". It's just another FAD that will be gone in 6 months. Was so easy for me to delete the app, there's nothing to it.

Pokemon Go received its first update earlier today, fixing several bugs players had experienced since the app's release. Some users on Reddit (via The Verge) are now claiming that the update (1.01) includes a game-breaking bug that locks them out of the app.

Users who sign into the app via a Pokemon Trainer Club account rather than a Google account are now unable to access the game and its servers. Dogecoin founder Jackson Palmer debugged the network traffic and found that the app no longer sends an HTTP request when you log in with a Pokemon Trainer Club account. This indicates that the problem is with the app itself, rather than being a server issue.

Currently, the only way for users with Pokemon Trainer Club accounts to bypass the bug is to avoid updating the app to version 1.01. Due to Apple's App Store regulatory policies, it's unclear how long it will take for developer Niantic to deliver a fix.

Since its launch last week, Pokemon Go has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon, sending Nintendo's stock soaring and earning an estimated $1.6 million in daily revenue with approximately 7.5 million downloads in the United States alone.

Deleted app, re-downloaded, reactivated account and was able to login to PTC account.

Version 1.0.2 posted, says to fix the issue.

I downloaded it and it's now telling me I need to active my account since I'm past the two day window. But I never received my activation email. I never received the "please send it again". So at this point, I'm just waiting. Still.

As for the appropriateness of this topic here, this site always posts about apps that have nothing more to do with this site than Pokémon. In the past month, the iOS blog alone (I skipped the Front Page stories) has covered the following non-Apple apps:

Facebook Messenger
Pokémon
ABC "Throwback"
Polaroid Swing
Prisma (this and the previous topics are just today!)
Snapchat
Outlook Groups
Spotify
Wallmart Pay
Paper
Google Keep
Procreate Pocket
Live.ly
Evernote
Kindle
Facebook
Google Maps
Slideshows
Twitter
Uber
Netflix
BitTorrent
YouTube
Instagram
Dropbox
Nasa
Flow
LinkedIn
Wand
Sling TV
Xbox
Didi Chuxing

So unless you're advocating that the site stop talking about ALL those apps, admit that you have a bee in your bonnet, act like an adult and move along. Continual whining does nothing for your public image or your fellow members here. Do the same as you would do when ANY OF THOSE OTHER APPS ARE DISCUSSED!

I hate summer tech news. I know it is slow but to keep talking about the same rage over and over again gets tired.

I hope MacRumors posts many more stories about Pokémon Go in the coming days, weeks, and months. Just to allow us to continue to enjoy the displeasure of all the folks who come here to complain about the abundance of coverage.

Good to know. We'll get the word out to the other 20 million players, so they can delete it off their phones too.

FWIW, the app doesn't have GPS built-in. Your phone has GPS built-in. The app is asking your phone for your current location. That location isn't always correct. (The phone also uses additional techniques to refine the location - triangulation off nearby cell towers and WiFi access points - but it's the phone hardware and OS doing this, not the app.)

Yes, it is unacceptably buggy for a full scale release.

No, you can't really just sit in one place.

If you do you may get a couple Pokemon from time to time - probably just Ratatta and Pidgy over and over mostly. But to actually do things you have to go to Pokestops and Gyms - and the good Pokemon are usually in mote exotic locations.

It is also time of day and terrain aware. Some Pokemon prefer night some prefer morning... Some prefer water some prefer parks, etc...

So while you theoretically can catch a few Pokemon by sitting in one place - you can't really play the game...
