Hi all,

I have an iPad Air 1, and it's showing its age. Slow, small RAM causing apps to die, etc, so I'm going to get an iPad Pro 12 inch.
Question is, do I wait until the A14 model comes out? Rumours seem to suggest a small chance of it this year, more likely next year.
Once I learned the 2020 iPad pro has the A12 chip, same performance as the 2018 model, I'm wondering should I just wait?

I would go for it because the iPad Pros are pretty amazing in performance and display. There's a bit of a wait now for the 2020 models, but you might want to consider a like-new Apple refurb 2018 model from the refurb store, which can be shipped overnight (or two-day). The refurbs, as you may know, come with the same one-year warranty and option to buy Applecare.

Trying to time the perfect buy is a goal we all have but it’s hard to do! I think it’s wiser just to get what you want and start enjoying it. That’s usually how I upgrade. Once my current iPad starts to feel outdated I do some research but then just get the next one I want. Works better than stewing over it and driving myself crazy, lol. :)

You shouldn't wait. Now is a great time to buy the iPad Pro. It'll fix the RAM problem that you're complaining about, largely thanks to the 6GB of RAM.

Buy it. I just ordered a 2020 12.9 based on this:

Ordered - 12.9 256 WiFi Space Grey, AppleCare+, Magic Keyboard, Apple Pencil 2.
Can someone call my wife and explain ....
Congrats! What's your estimated delivery date? You may want to read the thread below about a skin for your Magic Keyboard, something many of us have done.

A bit of a wait unfortunately, but I've loads to keep me busy in the meantime (housework....work.... meh)
Delivery: 3 Aug - 10 Aug by Express Delivery

Will check it out, thanks. The only downside to the Magic Keyboard I see is the inability to lay it flat for pencil use. By taking the iPad off the case (easy, magnets, good), and setting it on the desk, the camera bump will cause unevenness on the desk - not good when using the pencil I think - I dont want this thing to bend - my biggest fear!!

Ordered one after reading all the stories about finger prints.... from xtremeskins

I got the same, minus the keyboard. Maybe I’ll get a keyboard eventuality.

Enjoying it? Any concerns/issues with the bending ? I'm thinking it's not actually an issue, but we'll see. Part of the reason for taking applecare!

Love my 11” 2018 iPad Pro.

Upgraded to it a couple years ago from the iPad Air 2. It still runs everything without a problem, I think you’d be fine to pull the trigger now.

Yes I am enjoying it!

I don’t plan on bending it, and I don’t want to try :D I bought the apple Smart Cover (which was ridiculously expensive) since I don’t use a keyboard for it.

Why don’t you pick yourself up a 2018 model that should have significant discounts. I got a 1TB LTE 12.9 2018 model from my mobile phone provider for £1200 which is a nice almost £500 saving over what it should’ve cost and what the 2020 model still costs. Almost identical performance since the 1TB also has 6GB of ram but the lower capacity models should still be perfectly fine, plus they work with the magic keyboard And all the same accessories.

Ignore my post I didn’t see further down that the OP had already ordered one, however my advice still stands for anyone in the same position. The 2018 model is still an awesome device with some big savings now.

I’ve just ordered a 12.9 500gb space gray with Apple Pencil 2 to replace my 2017 iPad 12.9

with my current IPad I purchased a 2 metre charging cable, which is usb A to lighting. I was thinking preempting and ordering one before the iPad arrives but what do I order, is it

USB C to USB C
Or
USB C to USB A?

What is your charger? If your charger is a C, then get C to C, if its standard A then you'll need A to C.

I would encourage you to get a quality USB C charger. something from Anker or RavPower. It could be snake oil, but I come from a long background of RC cars. That hobby has been using high power LiPo battery and high output chargers for a long time. The general rule of thumb for these newer battery technologies is charge them fast then slow to maintain.

I am sure (I would hope) there is circuitry built into the battery aswell as maybe background software to control the charge? So this could all be for nothing. It makes me sleep better at night knowing I am giving my device as much power as it needs and let it figure it out rather than short changing it with 5v/2A from a USB A.

Check out Nomad cables. they make a really cool universal cable that pretty much covers anything except lightning. I emailed them about making a universal with lighting and they made it sound like it is in the works.

I am sure it comes with a C... My iPhone pro came with a C charger.

**EDIT**
If you go to apple.com and Buy, it says what in the box.

Ipad
USB C Cable
18W USB C charger

That seems underpowered IMO. For some reason I thought I remember reading it has to be 26W to do fast charging? I could be wrong, I am new to the new smart/fast chargers.

Does seem under powered. I have iPad mini and put stickers on the chargers so didn’t accidentally charge the mini with the Pros more powerful charger.

it maybe good old Apple trying to get you to upgrade to a new charger

I am pretty sure you can charge the mini with the more powerful charger, might actually be better for it? I charge my iPad2 via my 26W Usb C to lightning all the time.

I thought I’d be careful as I charged my old iPhone once with my iPad charger By accident and it went funny after it. (IPhone 6)
