Ok so this might be the dumbest question ever and please make fun of me if it is but...

Is anyone having luck setting up their new MM with third party BT mouse and keyboard? Tried all the connecting possibilities but all i get is the graphic to turn on my Apple keyboard and mouse. Please tell me i dont need to go out and buy apple mouse and keyboard to get this thing set up.

This may sound stupid but have you made sure that the Bluetooth on you mini turned on? IIRC BT is off by default.
Edit: and make sure the keyboard and mouse are turned on also, with fresh batteries.

I couldn't get past the initial screen until I plugged in a mouse. Do you have any wired or wireless with a USB dongle mice around?

But how would you turn on your BT without a keyboard or mouse...?

Great question. Do you have ANY old mice, preferably wired (USB), lying around? Use one of those. Or borrow one from a friend. Seems nowdays everybody has old mice laying around. Ask a neighbor, go to a thrift store, etc.
Notice you seem to be replying to the OP so just seconding your comments.

I’m having connectivity issues with my original magic Keyboard and track pad. Once I used wired periphs to get going it held a connection for awhile but now (while downloading from App Store) it keeps losing and regaining connection every minute or two. Had to leave for dinner but once I get home I’ll keep monitoring and will watch my Bluetooth window to see if my air pods still show up when they fall off to rule out a Bluetooth hardware issue. Anyone else?

Will be watching this thread. I don't have BT peripherals but if the nMini is having BT issues, we need to find out early.

After returning home I checked the mini and I had to press the trackpad button to connect and wake the cpu. I pulled up the Bluetooth preferences window and it still showed the keyboard disconnecting and then reconnecting. It wasn’t showing the little dialog box that pops up in the screen though. It was still downloading a game from the App Store. Once finished I restarted and it seems to have improved. I finished a word document without a problem. As I type this though I saw my trackpad disconnected for a few seconds. Maybe it’s a RAM issue as I got the 8gb.

Yeah I couldnt get past the initial setup screen to access BT pref. Went to the apple store to buy an apple keyboard and mouse, worked great....returning them tomorrow.

Seems like you could just buy a dirt-cheap USB mouse to use in situations like this.

What did ya end up doing? I'm in the same sinking boat. Wireless Logitech Keyboard & Mouse.
I used my old Logitech Keyboard and mouse with the Logitech Unifying receiver on my new 2018 mini with no issues. Make sure and double check your USB hub connections. Or try starting up with the receiver inserted into a USB port on the mini. It should work okay.

Mine is the Non Unifying older version. Will any wired mouse work or does it have to be an Apple wired mouse?

Any USB mouse will work. I prefer non-Apple mouses, when I prefer right-click over the old Apple single-click mouse, but I have some of those, too.
I agree, I haven't used an  mouse in many years. Some of my Logitech mice are at least 10 years old and still working fine.
