Hi,

I once purchased an Apple Pencil new directly from Apple for an iPad Pro just in case I might need it some time. So, the case had been now and it's about 7 years later.

When I charged the pencil it got to 100% very quickly but after disconnecting from the Lightning port it seems to drop to zero within a nanosecond and immediately disconnects from Bluetooth. I tried this several times and it's always starting with showing 3% and fastly going up.

I think the battery is just dead because it never had been used and charged a single time in this seven years. Or am I doing anything wrong?

I still have an iPhone 4s and even older stuff with batteries that haven't been used for even more years and always seem to work fine when I tried them many years later. The only difference is that all this stuff had been in regular use for a while.

So I think the answer is obvious and this is just a warning not to buy stuff if you don't need it yet and let it untouched for years. ;)
