The latest update to the Google Health app for iOS allows Google Health data to sync to Apple Health. Google's app is used to collect data from wearables like Fitbit trackers and the Pixel Watch.

Sync to Apple Health. Share your data like your exercise records, sleep, vitals, steps, and more from Google Health to Apple Health.
Google Health (previously the Fitbit app) collects fitness, sleep, and wellness data from a connected wearable device. Steps, distance traveled, heart rate, sleep, and more can now be added to Apple Health. As noted on Reddit, some data such as HRV doesn't transfer over.

Syncing can be enabled after downloading the update by selecting Connections, choosing Apps and services, and then adding Apple Health.

Apple Health data already synced to Google Health, so the new update adds two-way sync between the platforms. Fitbit devices have never had native sync to Apple Health, and users previously had to use a third-party syncing utility or a workaround to transfer data.

Version 5.05 of the Google Health app is available from the App Store for free. The update also adds Smart Health Links for sharing medical records with providers or family members.

This is actually really good news. I really like my Apple Watch 11, but the biggest downside for me is wearing it to bed for sleep tracking. It’s a bit bulky to sleep with, and having to work charging into the routine doesn’t help either.

For sleep tracking, a lot of Fitbits actually make more sense. They’re lighter, generally have much better battery life, and many don’t even have a screen. The biggest thing that kept me from using one was having my health data split across different apps. If Fitbit now syncs directly with Apple Health, that’s one less reason not to use one.

Share your health data with Google? Let them profile you, monetize your most personal information, and sell access to whoever can pay. Then, when one of those companies gets breached, bought, or quietly folds, don’t act surprised when your data ends up on the dark web-just so you can use a less accurate device. Faustian bargain

Now if only Ring would finally join Homekit like they said they were "working on" when I bought my doorbell.

ok but why, sort of like synchronizing my sundial with a water clock - I can do it, but why bother

Yes, only Apple can monetise your health data. 🙄

I was wondering how long the generic anti Google comments would take to appear.*

*This is not meant as a blind defence of Google.

nice. i guess im getting a fitbit air. i already have a google ai pro plan, which comes with google health.
this means i can stay in the ios ecosystem while benefiting from actual modern technology...

I'm kinda shocked this wasn't already available. That's actually pretty wild. I'm not a fitbit owner, but I were going to buy one, I would 100% assume that the data would sync with Apple Health.

Great news for me! I now have both a Fitbit Versa 3 (bought a long time ago) and an Apple Watch SE (2nd generation). I wear the Fitbit at night and on weekends, while I use the Apple Watch on business days. The Apple Watch is the best and most reliable when it comes to notifications, while the Fitbit is a better health and fitness tracker.
Now that both devices are syncing together, it's fantastic! 🙃

Sorry to say. But take your loss. Tear that Ring off your house and install another manufacturer smart doorbell. On which supports Apple Home from the start.

It's a good first step but ideally you'd be able to sync any of your hardware trackers directly with whatever software ecosystem you prefer.

I wouldn't want to give Google access to this information regardless, so it syncing to Apple Health via Google Health defeats the purpose (for me). I'm equally sure there's people who use Google Health or Garmin or whatever who would like to add an Apple Watch or whatever to their setup.

News flash. Apple does this too. They just have a better marketing team to make users think they don't.
