If you want to wear this or the next FuelBand for about a year go for it but Apple's implementation will put these companies out of business by 2016.

These things are pointless gimmicks. Technology for technology sake. Like a fork with an accelerometer. Oh wait...

Problem with the Flex is the build quality isn't great. My first band's colour faded after a few weeks and finally snapped in half 2 weeks ago. Can't see a bigger, more delicate device lasting any longer based on my experience. But to be fair it has been basically part of me for a good few months!

I'm going to keep the Flex (and the free wristband shipped from the US), and wait and see what the iWatch brings to the table.

And for the people who don't see the point in these things, I've lost over 50lbs with the help of one. It's a great motivational tool.

Not saying it's good for everyone but it was ideal for me.

I believe that I will wait for the iwatch. I think that the the device Apple makes will be worth the wait. I even like the Nike Fuelband, but to me, a completed wearable device is worth the wait.

This is what the Flex should have been. Too late for Fitbit though. I doubt people who just bought the Flex are going to spend another $150 so soon & the Fuel Band 2 is going to be announced next week. Rumor has is it will have heart rate monitor & apps.

Pointless gimmick has helped me to monitor my daily activity & reform my sedentary ways. Agree its useless for naturally active people but for the rest of us who need to be reminded its a great tool. Don't be so quick to judge.

Ultra

Pretty happy with my Fitbit Ultra...way better battery life than the Flex. It doesn't vibrate, but it tracks stairs, and I can keep it in my pocket and not on my wrist. My friend is constantly forgetting to charge his Flex everyday.
Whatever apple's solution, I'm sure they'll get the battery life part right!

I am very interesting in activity bands, but I personally don’t see much use for one without heart rate monitor capability. Maybe I am kidding myself. Maybe they cant put that technology in a wrist band, I just don’t have much confidence that an accelerometer is going to be a true indication of calories burned vs a heart rate monitor. I think I will wait and see for now.

Heart rate monitoring can be useful for people trying to lose weight - especially for older people, since metabolism slows, e.g, "i only lost xxxx calories and I just ran for hr???" :) For someone who has been extremely fit for a long time, and now just confronting how difficult it is to shed a few pounds, its one datum I am paying a little more attention too.

Weight loss is of course a dynamic process involving diet and exercise; mostly diet.

However, when calculating total caloric expenditure during a day, it can be useful to calculate more accurate exercise calories. The convenience of not having to strap on chest monitor is obvious.

Not everyone needs such additional detail, and it probably is more of a selling point than useful function in the long term.

Still, for some, it might be a cool thing to have all in one.

Im wearing my flex all the time. It would be neat if I could use the band to find the phone, which I constantly misplace. Now that would be useful!

Really!? Like really? I JUST bought the Fitbit Flex about 1.5 months ago from Apple.

Didn't you check www.fitbitrumors.com ? dude...

Just kidding! :)

Now I think I should take a closer look at this. I got an Jawbone UP and its battery died after 6 weeks. I have been waiting for a replacement band for two months now. I think I should just return it and get a Fitbit Force or Flex.

I have a Fitbit One and tried the Flex

I sent back the Flex because it was missing everything that the Force now has...basically what the One has: steps, stairs, sleep, alarm. It has given me extra incentive to add more activity to my lifestyle. If the Force is what I hope it is, I'll swtich from the One. What's nice is you have at least 30 days to try it out and return it.

Just my $.02

Not happy, the flex just came out in May (THIS year, not last like it says in the article) after a long lead up. Never would have expected a better version to come so quickly for nearly the same price.

women's version, please!

I had the Jawbone Up! which I really liked because it is so much sleeker than the others and Fuel doesn't do sleep which is really interesting to monitor. But, I want a clock/watch on it so I don't have to either wear something on the other wrist or pull my phone out all the time. My only concern with all these wrist devices is that women can have small wrists, and unless the women's version is smaller and still readable, they aren't gonna work for many of us. Force on order... Always time to return it if a new release seems like a better option.

I've had the Fitbit Flex since July and I will definitely getting the Fitbit Force because of the watch and flights of stairs feature. I just pre-ordered mine at best buy

May of LAST YEAR? I thought the Flex was released this year because I bought one the second I heard about them. I would've gladly paid an extra $30 for a watch feature. Grr.

Can these armbands actually track workouts other than running accurately? I'm not a runner, but do mostly rowing and some weight training. So far I'm simply tracking my workouts manually.

For weight training there's a device coming out Q2 next year:

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/push-the-first-fitness-tracking-device-that-measures-strength

It's more applicable to those who are engaged in strength training though, as opposed to working out with weights or body building.

Picked up the fitbit scale a while back and liked it so much I picked up one for both moms. Their app is the best out of all the other smart scales and the wife just bought the pink flex. I may see what the next nike band has to offer but if it doesn't have heart rate I'll pick up one of these.

Nike has an October 15th media event, supposedly for the new Nike Fuel Band, I would wait to see before purchasing.

Apple's going to put Nike out of business by 2016? OK.

Don't underestimate the power the addition of technology can have to motivate people to do things that would never do otherwise - people who have never run in their lives and have had no interest in doing so suddenly starting doing 20 miles a week because they can track their routes via GPS and log their stats to their computers...

For some people technology is a massive driver.

I agree! Not to mention you want to work out in your target Heart Rate Zone. I vibration in my wrist to let me know would be awesome!

A couple of studies by some universities have determined activity monitors to be better at estimating calorie burn than heart rate monitors. And an estimation is the best you're getting either way. Calculating actual work is a better estimate than calculating heart rate.

Or you could just move around more and eat healthy.

Uh, yeah. That's the entire point of these devices. Way to ignore the obvious.

My Flex I charge every 5 days or so. It takes a long time to charge it up, so maybe this person is not waiting until it is full?

I also have zero construction issues with mine. I have worn it everyday for the past 2 months. I only take it off to shower.
