USB-C doesn't insert as easily as Lightning, but it's more than ready. How is it not ready?
This is how. They update this article every year, and have done since 2018.

It is a complete mess in general. Couldn't Apple just start an MFI program for USB-C to USB-C cables, as well as adapters, to solve this?

Edit: Though when PPS is universally adopted that should also help somewhat. There will always be low quality peripherals, though.

Dramatic much? Sorry you’re the one that’s short sighted, you probably still use a cassette player. I live in the country, low speed internet (25 mbps) but I‘m a techie and could absolutely get by just fine with a port less iPhone. Just because you don’t want to move forward doesn’t make it narrow minded or “an ignorant take.” It just makes you myopic.
I feel the post you replied to here was a bit aggressive, but I partially agree with the overall sentiment. Wireless charging offers next to no benefits and several drawbacks. It charges slower than a cable, it decreases your battery health faster which shortens your usage time, it makes your phone/battery get hot, it charges inefficiently and wastes time/energy. (Therefore less environmentally friendly.)

I personally don't see why anyone would voluntarily use that unless it's your only option. No interest in a portless device for that very reason.

Of course - plus, not all USB-C stuff is rubbish or nonstandard. Stick to reputable brands and at least it won't fry your device, and if you're stuck for a charging cable, a trickle charge from a bog standard USB-C cable is better than nothing.

I hate USB-C as an alternative to a sensible selection of dedicated ports on a desktop or laptop... but that's all kinda water under the bridge now, and it's probably time to stop worrying and learn to love USB-C [grinds teeth].

However, for phones, tablets etc. where you need a single does-it-all port, you have to ask what is the alternative? MicroUSB? The extra-wide USB3 version of MicroUSB? They're just as much a lottery when it comes to fast charging, and can't support USB4 or higher-res displays. Lightning is great at what it does, but it's completely proprietary and you'd need a "Lightning 2" to support USB3/4/Thunderbolt/4k-5k displays which are now becoming relevant to the iPad and top-end iPhones. USB-C has it's flaws but - at least on mobile - it's better than the alternatives.

Currently, I'm still dependent on a USB A hub for desktop peripherals, and have accumulated a handful of USB-A-to-Lightning leads to charge Apple peripherals and iDevices - but going forward, if I'm going to have to migrate to a USB-C world (and I'm faced with a Mac Studio with half-a-dozen USB-C ports) I don't want to start buying USB-C-to-Lightning cables when some iPads are already USB-C (with some iPhones soon to follow).

Yeah, I think a heavy regulatory hand from Apple here would be our only real chance for a little pocket universe (or walled garden, if you will lol) where you can just buy USB-C cables and not have to worry much about what's compatible with what.

USB standards bodies have been trying to clean things up for ages, and it seems like things get more complex every time they try.

And you're right - there sure are some nasty cheap lightning cables out there too.
