1. My beloved custom Fender Fretless Electric Jazz Bass.
2. My Ibanez Acoustic bass
3. My Trombone
4. My rack of every David Bowie CD ever released
5. All my music/tab books

And of course my Macbook, but that's an Apple product, so it doesn't count. :)

Given the situation of a fire, and not necessarily my "favorites"

Okay... your house is on fire. All the people and pets are out safe. You can run back in and save five things. A water hose does not count :D
Seems a lotta folks glazed over the OPs bolded note. :p

That said, if I really can't name Appley goods, I think it makes it hard for me to come up with just a few things. Maybe it's yet another sign of my life being too cluttered with things that don't necessarily mean "enough" to me.

What I do know I'd go back in for (if "safe enough" and given the OP's conditions) and given that it's a fire-situation, and not free-standing favorite items:
  • the gorgeous Barefoot Dreams Cozychic™ blankie someone special gave me this past Christmas
  • stuffed amminal-- though I'm not sure which, as I have quite a few
  • passport/ ID stuffs
  • external HDD

Sheesh, okay, that's the best I can do for now. This is way too hard. Heh.

In the fire situation, I'd go for my phone, but since thats an apple product has to be left out, so after that...
1. Car Keys, obviously my car is outside, but I'd want to move it away from the fire!
2. External Drive, since its got all my pictures music everything, and its the only backup I've got. (But my macbook would have been number one on this list, so I'd have most of my stuff)
3. Box of old nick-nacks. Over the years I've sort of collected things that mean a lot to me in a little box under my bed, so that would have to be rescued.
4. Other ornaments and gifts that mean a lot to me that wouldnt fit in my box would also have to be saved.
5. After that it would have to be my Metal Gear collection of games; just missing the original MSX version. I've got to admit I'm a huge fan.

It was quite hard to get to 5 though, but they're all things that are irreplaceable to me. All my apple things would be first out of the door though in a real life situation!

as someone who has unfortunately lived through an apartment fire, i have to say when you are running out of a building filling with smoke, god bless you if you can remember to grab anything. we were fortunate enough to get in to grab stuff the next day and grabbed

1. cell phone and charger
2. lock box with documents
3. spare car keys (hubby not home and i grabbed mine for my apartment key)
4. valuable jewelry
5. toiletries

as much as i would have loved to grab my photos, we only had ten minutes in the apartment and they seemed like less of a priority.

1) My books

2)My car

3) A poster of zac efron *Drools*

4) The street sign that has my name on it (don't worry, we bought it from the city so it was legal)

No, he said:

And I said:
I'd go back for the kids, that's it. There is nothing else worth going into a burning house for.
Once you've got the people (and maybe pets, if any) out, there is no earthly reason to go back in and save material goods.

The best example I can think of is that fire at The Station nightclub in Providence, I think it was at a Great White show. Go back and look at the video, all those people who didn't immediately react -- and react correctly -- didn't make it.

There is nothing in a burning house worth your life or being painfully disfigured for. If you have mementos you'd want to save, make copies of them now and move them somewhere else (i.e. send copies of pictures to a family member). If its just material goods, insure them.

Sorry to be such a wet blanket, but fires are tricky beasts! Don't tempt fate, don't be one of those people who didn't make it back out because they were saving some photographs or tax records or whatever. Its not fair to your loved ones, and its not fair to the firefighter who would have to go in to try and save you (or worse, what's left of you).

My Firesafe which contains: photos, jewelry, gemstones, Archive BackUp DVD's, and documents - weights about 80lbs so I should be able to carry it out. :p

I would love to save my books but with over 3,600 of them...

My model horse collection

External Drive.

DVD archives.

Really there is not that much I have that I could not replace.
all my sentimental/important stuff is in a 2 hour rated fire safe. or in bank safety box.

I answered based on the title, as far as going in to a burning house to rescue other things. Nothing is that important (as long as all people and pets are safe) that I'd risk my life for.

1) Bose Companion 3 speakers - I know Bose is controversial, but I love em!
2) PS3
3) Wii
4) Samsung 52 inch LCD

  5. My box of memories

In no particular order...

1. Peavey electric guitar (V-Type. I need a new amp, however...)
2. Austin acoustic guitar
3. My car
4. whisky collection...?
5. Photos of my family

There's no need to bicker about the thread title or the fire scenario I created.

I was really just trying to get folks to list their five favorite (non-living) things. I assumed since this is a Mac forum that there would be alot of Apple products listed, and a thread listing stuff we all know we already like wouldn't be interesting.

Obviously I don't condone running into a burning house. I just figured that scenario would eliminate alot of things that are replaceable, and influence people to list items that have a deeper sentimental value.

What has surprised me is that alot of people went ahead and still listed some things that are replaceable.

My theory is that no matter how much I like my digital camera or my cowboy boots (for example)... I can go buy new ones tomorrow.

I'm the kind of person that particularly enjoys a good 'purge' of material belongings every now and then - though obviously my apartment burning down wouldn't be my method of choice to achieve this.

I guess there's very little that I'd care about saving if this were to happen, though I'd probably go back for my:

- Samsung HDTV
- Wii
- External HD
- Artwork
- Passport (could probably use a holiday after all that stress)

Bah, if my house burned down at most what I would grab would be my laptop with all my pics on it (I do have off-site backups, but those are a pain to restore :p)

My favorite objects in order are

1)Wii
2)T-mobile Wing
3)NDS Lite
4)My Bed
5)and lastly probably my paints... Though I need to "create" an area to paint in

Why do we have to leave our Apple items behind? That hardly seems fair. Luckily I'd have my iPhone in my pocket as usual, so it would be safe.
Anyway, my list is:
1. My flute (it cost me about $8000 so there's no way I'm leaving it behind!)
2 – 5. My pea coats. (I collect genuine Navy issue pea coats and I currently have 5 in my collection. Guess I'd have to leave one behind :( )
