I am trying Edison mail as one of your suggested apps and I have to say it is not a great expierence. Some basic features like display by thread and Dracula account do not work, I also have issues with some photos sent as attachments to mail not displaying... and the support I’d at best in my short espierince intermittent. I am going back to Apple mail

Thx

You can usually edit a post to correct something.

I encountered the same problem. I also wanted to send a photo. First I thought that the email was not send, because it doesn't appear in send items. But it was send. After that I wanted to send a video but that was not possible. I had to send the video with Apple Mail. :/

One of the reasons I always stick with the Apple native app or the client from the email provider. From fonts/size to attachments, something occasionally seems to be off.

every time I see email app posts, I have a panic attack that INBOX is leaving me with these sad sad apps. outlook?! I'm forced to use it on desktop for work and I cant stand that junk! is the app version somehow magically not 1983 feeling?!

Which version are you using? Outlook for desktop & mac has been excellent for years..

I actually prefer using 3 different apps for my school (Outlook), and personal (Mail and Gmail) since each one has a different notification I keep them all next to each on my home screen. To each their own. I would say Outlook is my favorite overall on all platforms (iPad and MacBook). Microsoft’s apps are honestly excellent across the board.

I've been a fan of Edison and have recommended it to others but a couple of issues with it have pushed me over to revert back to the stock mail app for the time being.

Edison cannot display threaded email view for iCloud accounts. It's very annoying but I could live with this one. However, over the last 2 weeks Edison email notifications have been coming in well ahead of the emails themselves show up in the app. So when clicking on the new email notifications, even 30 mins after the notification shows up, I'm taken to the inbox where only then it starts to download the new emails. I then have to wait for that to process to complete and click on the new email to view it. Their support, while fairly prompt in their responses, have been unable to help.

I like Outlook. But the fact you can have html signature for a professional look is a non sense. I am not using it because of this reason.

PS you can enter HTML code and get an HTML signature until MS gets to adding it (it is in the upcoming feature list on their Uservoice site; but like many other features has been "upcoming" status for months/years)

ie. <u> </u> to udnerline <b> </b> to bold. HTML links, emai mailto links, they all work

That is good to know. Thanks for the advice

Any ideas as to the "most efficient" email app for ios, in terms of sending/receiving email data? I have a limited data plan, and need to keep data going in/out to the minimum, while still being able to download/read/send emails as needed from many accounts. I expect my email app to probably be one of my biggest consumers, but want it to be the most efficient at this possible.

Apple Mail for personal use. MS Outlook for work mail.
I sure wish Apple would add SHARE extensions for messages in Apple mail, though... Then messages that are tasks could become tasks where they need to be tasks!

I just use the provider's app; Gmail for my Gmail, Outlook for my Hotmail, Edison for my 3rd party email and Apple Mail for my iCloud email. Not for everyone, but it's what works best for me.

What is wrong with the default, stock, Mail app?

Not a thing. I use it daily. It does 95% of what I need and email app to do.

But Apple really needs to update it; it's looked the same since basically the first version of iOS. Snooze, integrations with other apps.

Some little things, like customization- custom inbox swipes, customize the look a little if you wanted to (like sender avatars). The attachments not at the dang bottom of the thread (Outlook does this right attached at the top of the email).

It's just a bit "simple" and dated feeling. Like Windows Mail; it works but it's not the best experience you can get.

The really big one missing why to use a 3rd party app is gmail push, but that is more Google than Apple.

I am constantly switching between Spark and Outlook. In Spark, I LOVE the smart grouping, which works better than "Focused" sorting in Outlook. Also, there are some really nice advanced features, like creating links to Emails that can be sent to other apps, like Things.

However, for some reason, Spark loads emails - and especially attachments - a lot slower than other email clients, especially from Gmail. Outlook is blazing fast, on the other hand - and I generally like it a lot, so I keep going back and forth.

(Edit: remember, if something is free, you're the product...)

Not always, it depends on the company really. I use ProtonMail the free version, dedicated email client app, no advertising, does not sell my information to my knowledge and no pressure to signup for the paid service. After using it for over a year, I am so pleased with it that I plan on paying for it. My gmail account is used for junk mail mainly.

One of the best decisions regarding a free email service I have made recently.

Apple really just needs to add font color to their native app. I can't tell you how often I want to reply to someone's questions in an email within the body of their email. Usually I'll put my answer right after their question in red or some other color. You can't do that in the native mail app. The most you can do is make the text bold. Other than that I don't have any gripes about Mail - it works.
