I went to my local Apple store this morning in Westlake, Ohio since they opened at 8am & after spending about 90 minutes trying to figure out this Widget, notification center, social sharing, markup bug we came to the conclusion of how to fix it.

This came from the genius bar after talking to Apple Support and I know it sucks and is a little time consuming but it does work & everything works as it's suppose to then. I'd like to note that we discovered the bug only affects the current admin account or any current account you have on your Mac except for the Guest user.

    Here we go...

Create a new Admin Account and name it what you want it to be named as it will be your new permanent account.

Next take everything from your Users Folder under your current account name and copy it to either the shared folder or an external device. (I know it's a pain in the you know what)

Go ahead and log out of your current account and into the new account. Then copy everything to the new User folder and make sure your applications are intact.

Then log into the app store and it will need to redownload all of your apps (another sucky part but very quick)

you can then delete your old user account and delete the old user folder and trash them.

You should now have Yosemite working as it is suppose to work. For some reason this big affects only the current accounts and forces you to create new accounts and this is the fix from Apple, it does save everything you have but it's a time crunch because you have to copy everything manually to save it.

I forgot to add the part that this bug is supposedly caused by old Snow Leopard data remaining in the user account info. I use most of the social share features so I needed it fixed ASAP and went to the Apple store on purpose to get answers. Now even my markup appears under the extensions panel in System preferences which is needed for the mail features.

Someone in the Apple forum found a way to get the Social working without creating a new account, but it still doesn't fix the markup feature.

So I was about to try this method, because it was driving me nuts that some of the widgets were not working, and that I did not have Markup because I plan on using that frequently. What I did was change the account name and full name on my account. Created a new account with the old account name and old full name and logged into that new account. All the data transferred over, but it added all the widgets plus markup. I had to go to extensions in settings and enable the widgets and markup, but it at least gave me the option to do so unlike my original account.

So, YMMV, but it took all of 10 minutes and everything is working how it is suppose to be. For whatever reason I had these glitches on my iMac going from PB6 to Final. But never had a single problem on my MBA and I went from GM3 to Final.

For the Actions Extension go to Application/Preview, then right clicking on Preview and selecting "Show Package Contents." Then go to Contents/Plugins/Markup. Double click on Markup which attempts to open it in Widget Simulator with a "Couldn't Open Widget" error message. Actions/Markup should now appear in the Extensions pane of System Preferences, and be available in Mail. Unfortunately this doesn't survive restarts.
