Re-did the living room unit and updated the bedroom, both went fine, and both are working perfectly now too....I have no use for a conference room feature, but the photostream update is worth while...No radio in the Uk as yet, but I expect we will get that in due course when the copyright issues have been ironed out.

I guess have a different definition of 'critical error', cause to me a glitch that causes the need to restore a device that holds basically no data and takes less than ten minutes to set up from scratch is an annoyance not a critical error

Lost nearly all of the photos in photo stream - that's more than an annoyance.

HA alright a little harsh maybe didn't mean to come across that way. (okay maybe a little) , but you can get a Intel iMac for less then $300 on craigslist. May be worth considering. Close but defiantly not Gary :) Highland.

Yes a new computer is definitely on the horizon. I just don't appreciate being backed into a corner in this "post PC" era. The desktop gets very little use these days in our house now that we have the iPads.

I wonder if this will come in for those of us who were successful in getting Friday's update to install.

Off I go to turn it on and find out.

----------

I see there is now an option to update software and another option to automatically update software.

Even though the living room ATV updated successfully, I was prompted to do it again this morning...Didn't t take as long as a full upgrade did, but I guess they just overwrote the errant code...I'd do it again to be safe.

Atv2

My ATV2 updated fine on Friday and has done so again today, this newer update applied itself much faster than that one did. Also Friday's update was working fine for me but I applied this new update all the same in case something was lurking that build that could cause future headaches.

This new update looks okay so far from a cursory look.

Looking forward to iRadio becoming available in the UK, whenever that may be. Also would like to see both Eurosport Player and BBC iplayer on it at some point too, currently AirPlay both of them over from the iPad.

On the screencapture it says watch VIDEOS from your photostream! Isn't photostream currently limited to photos? This would be great to cache my videos in the cloud and then watch them on AppleTV if this is true. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Videos now appear in Photostream courtesy of iOS 7.

Still no BBC iPlayer for the UK ? guess ill keep using my PS3 as a media player

You can use the iplayer app on an iphone or ipad to play on an appletv using airplay. I just wish C4 and ITV would get their apps working with airplay too.

Problem with that is it badly saturates my Wifi bandwidth, having to go Time Capsule -> iPad -> Time Capsule -> Apple TV leaves the stream a blocky mess and is at best an inelegant solution when an iPlayer app would do if apple would just get over themselves and open the Apple TV up to the AppStore properly.

so, this new update fixes what the original caused ?

What if your device is already bricked, you have to do this via itunes right?

Just updated. Nothing was successful due to ATV3 not accepting D-Link Wireless Router. Because I kept getting this error - 3902.

What can I do about this one?

----------

Final wanted to be little clear on what I meant by that. All of my family's mobile phones and laptops including tablets worked perfectly fine, but not ATV3? Why is that? Even though I inputted in the correct network password and nothing happened.

I'd start by ditching the crap router hardware and getting an Apple Airport router.

The way I understand it is, is that you are at a family or friends house, and your Apple ID credentials are not in their Apple TV, but you want to play a movie you rented with your Apple ID. This will allow you to stream that movie from your iDevice to their Apple TV without the need of them signing out and you signing in to their ATV.

No, regular AirPlay lets you do that. What the new feature does is allow you, in the same situation, to start the process from your iDevice, properly authenticating etc., but then the streaming goes straight from the cloud to the ATV, bypassing your device in the process and allowing you to switch apps.

Your iDevice still needs to be connected, and you can't force-quit the app, because it apparently "checks in" every once in a while to make sure the authorized iDevice is still there.

R, this is accomplished today by running PLEX as an underlying media server and installing the hack PlexConnect to make it all so. good luck!

MKVs can just be unpacked to m4vs which the Apple TV will stream using Subler, which is free. Takes about 30 seconds.

For avis I just re-encode with Handbrake.

"Automatic Updates" is now an option in the menu. Anyone out there brave enough to enable this feature?

Yes.

Brave enough is better than not enabling it..

Alas, it doesn't work... They introduced this in the original ATV 6.0 update, and it didn't tell me THIS update was available, i had to manually go into "Software Update" and saw there was one.

And I believe its still not fixed, just like they still haven't fixed the audio issue when playing video podcats... It chews through my bandwidth like crazy if i'm not careful.

Thank allot Apple :p There was no reason to do this for video podcats.

Apple updates to cause more problems....

Is it just me ? Or are we seeing a NEW Apple ? That is, putting features first, instead of security.
