I have a - what appears to be - dead ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition video card. I'm trying to work up the courage to try some fixit work on the card; replacing capacitors, resldering, etc. Any questions or recommendations as to where to start first?

Thanks.

Hey first of all you should try doing some troubleshooting I.E. what’s wrong with the card.

Inspect the card, clean it for dust and remove the heat sink look around for anything that looks suspicious (corrosion, darker marks etc) I’d avoid using isopropyl alcohol straight away as it can wash out these hints.

If all looks in order then you should just try it on your Mac and see what it does.

Let us know how it goes!

I will try to do that this weekend and let you know. I wouild also like to find a PCI video card either Mac or flashable PC that can do 9.2.2 and at least 10.4.11 (I would really like it to run on 10.5.8 on my PowerPC G4). That way I will have a video card that does work even if I cannot use the 9000. Any suggestions?
