Hello,

I'm new to the forum so I'm not sure about procedure, but I'll start off and say that I have an iPhone4 jailbroken/unlocked with ios 5.1.1 no apple guarantee.

A few days ago, my LEFT earphone suddenly stopped working. I tried other earphones and the same happened, I also connected these earphones to my computer and they were working fine there. I went into General > Accessibility and moved the Audio Channel slide to the LEFT and there is no sound at all when the earphones are plugged in. So my first guess was that it's a Hardware issue. I took the iPhone to a local phone repair store where they replaced the audio jack socket piece for a new one. The problem, however, did not resolve. They mentioned that restoring my phone the default settings might fix it... however, I'm not too sure about it. What do you think?

If I backup my phone via iTunes and Restore, will I keep ios 5.1.1? I don't want to restore and have 6.1.4 because this cannot be jailbroken.

Any other possible ideas on how to fix it?

Thank you very much!

Someone may come along and correct me if I am wrong, but if you have an A5 chip then you can't restore and downgrade to a version Apple isn't signing. However, I don't think the iPhone 4 has an A5 chip, does it? I believe it was the A4 chip. If it doesn't then can you get your hands on the SHSH blobs before you restore?

Since I think you can still downgrade to an unsigned version, you can restore. Even though you're on 5.1.1 you can update to 6.1.2 and jailbreak again.

Get your IPSW file and move forward.

I would attempt to restore as long as you can get back to an OS version that can be jailbroken. If that doesn't help the headphone issue then I don't know what to tell you. :)

So I'm right to believe that by ´Restoring from Backup´will in fact update my phone's firmware to iOS 6.1.4 even though the Backup is iOS 5.1.1 and probably factory settings leaves it at iOS 5?

The ironic thing is when I have the earphone's plug halfway down the jack I can hear the music through both earphones (as it uses only 1 channel) but by pressing it all the way down the LEFT channel just stops working... does this sound like a software or hardware issue?

UPDATE

I just had a flashback and realized that the day this problem started i plugged my iPhone into to an Amp/speaker set that was having problems. The cable that plugged into the jack could of damaged a fuse or something.

I also Reset All Settings with no results, and although this is not a full reboot i think the problem is more likely to be hardware than software.

Its going to be tricky to fix.... No more music for me :-(

Is there away of forcing the Right Channel down both earphones side? Similar to how when you plug your earphones halfway down.

Cheers
