Fixing MacBook with Mac mini CD

    i want to know if i can fix my macbook using mac mini restore cds because i may have lost the cds for my macbook.

    any info would be apreciated thank you.

    The grey OS X installer discs are machine specific.

    yes i know but what will ghappen if i do do it. will my macbook not work at all
    or will some things just not work correctly.

    Your machine will more then likely kernel panic if you're able to installer successfully.

    darn and there probably is no way to get around it unless i buy macbook restore cd man i have some school pappers to write tonight and i really need my macbook.

    I suggest booting the MacBook into FireWire Target Disk Mode and then using Super Duper to clone over the operating system and files over to it from the Mac mini.

    It will take several hours depending on how much data you're moving over.

    sorry forgot to mention my macbook is to the point where it wont boot into the os.

    You don't need to boot into the OS. Target Disk Mode is hardware level.

    make copies of the Macbook recovery disc from someone..

    It'd be faster to do Firewire target mode on the MacBook, and just copy the data files needed for school to the Mini, do the school work, and fix the MacBook properly later.

    ok i do have a backup of my files but i just wanted to see if i could fix my macbook without buying cds

    Cloning from the Mac mini to the MacBook will fix it.

    If you need the files off of the MacBook you can copy them to the Mac mini as well.

    i got the cd and i am installing it normally how long should it take to install.

    it'll take about an hour'ish from start to finish
