Personally I thought it was refreshing to see a person who valued personal peace and a simple lifestyle over piles of money and media exposure. So rare in today's world.

Sad to see so many commenters here believe it to just be a shrewd business ploy. Is this how jaded we've all become?

I actually think it's a little bit of jealousy. I know at least for me I feel like I'm working my ass off and not really getting ahead. When I hear about someone who stumbles into a fortune and then pisses it away, I can't help but feel like "why can't this happen to me."

It might be wrong to be mad at him, but I can understand how people who are struggling to pay bills would be critical of someone who walked away from money.

Thanks for another story about the guy who wants to stay out of the spotlight. He really must be addicting. Something about his aura, I guess. Or maybe it's his Sex Panther.

I hear you. Then again, I wonder if I would really want a deluge of cash like that. Money has a way of changing people for the worse. I can respect a man who recognizes that and turns away.

Since his fortune (or lack thereof) has zero impact on our own personal situations, it would seem a waste of energy to begrudge his declination of new-found fame and fortune.

$50,000 a day, and he buys a Mini Cooper?! I don't know about you, but if I was making that kind of dough, id be opting for something italian...

Mark Zuckerberg drives a VW GTI. I say good for him!

it's not that simple. People love conspiracy theories and calling this a PR move...

But is he making more or less money by pulling Flappy Bird?
The answer is clearly less.

You're not looking long term enough. If this is just Step 2 of 3, and he re-releases Flappy Bird, he'll be making *a lot* more than $50,000 a day.

I only ever heard of this guy, and his app, after he pulled it from the store. He claims he pulled the app because of too much attention (which of course may be partially true), and the only thing that's happened to this guy since he's pulled it is he's getting *more* attention. Do you think Rolling Stone would have interviewed him had he just been another app developer that enjoyed success?

The point is, he's now saying he may re-release Flappy Bird, which goes against everything he's said up until this point, and if he does sell it again, he'll be making much bigger money than he'd been enjoying previously with the app.

For some the lure of the money seems to be the be all and end all, but not everyone is obsessed with money or are content with what they have. As for the games, I played it for about fifteen minutes before I became utterly bored with it and have never played it again. I don't know why someone would want to play it for hours at a time day after day. At the end of the day it's his game to do with as he pleases so good luck to him.

"Your logic is undeniable." That is if we were actually completely rational beings.

Hmm I'm wondering if it will do anywhere near as well once it returns to the App Store.

1) There are tons of clones of this game now.

2) In the interim since it was pulled, many people have started to realize it's actually a fairly crappy game (with stolen Nintendo graphics) and may have moved on already.

Oh so silly, Arn. You wouldn't know a scam if it ran you over with a truck.

Everyone is looking at this very cynically. Sounds like the guy was honestly bothered by how it was affecting others and himself. Hats off to him.

#3- I feel so bad for him... that he possibly now realizes that he isn't making money anymore because it is not in the App Store.

/rant

Tell me when did the guy actually realize that he wasn't making any money because it's not in the app store?

Was it right after this: Though Flappy Bird is no longer available for download, it continues to make money for Nguyen, "generating tens of thousands of dollars." The app's success has led Nguyen to quit his job, and he's considering purchasing both a Mini Cooper and an apartment as he continues to develop new games.

Ha called it!

But seriously, people still play? It's not like it's actually a good game right? It was all hype.

I understand the paparazzi thing, but....
They should stop selling beer, it ruins people's lives. Hmmmm.....
If it wasn't flappy bird, it would've been another game. I'm sure PLENTY of people go through crap because they don't do what they're supposed to when they're supposed to. Making something fun isn't a drawback. It's not addicting like crack because it doesn't have degenerative qualities to human chem.
