Patched tool works the same way the original one. You can read about the usage on the iFixit write-up, the copy of the old netkas thread saved on the Internet Archive and also read the GitHub page instructions.

If you still can't upgrade, some early-2009s are impossible to cross-flash to MacPro5,1 firmware even with the patched tool, you gonna need the BootROM reconstruction service. I'll send you a PM with instructions/service fee/turnaround time.

Finaly I succed to flash the mac Pro, The bootRom now is MP5.1.007F.B03. I installed Hig sierra to change the BootROm to MP5.1.0089.B00. I project to install Mojave in SSD and then used OCLP to install Sequoia or Sonoma if it's possible.
Thank's a lot for ur help and disponibility

Hello, Alex.

I've followed the steps from "How to Upgrade the Firmware of a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1", but it didn't work out.

"After your Mac Pro is powered off, hold the power button down until you see the power LED blink quickly or you hear an audible tone. The blinking LED will precede the tone." - that's ok

"You should see a gray screen with a progress bar at the bottom of the screen." - that's not ok. The system just makes a normal start.

Any idea?

Thanks.

  1. Your GPU is AppleOEM? AppleOEM GPU required.
  2. RTC battery is over 2,95V? If the RTC is not working correctly you will not be allowed to flash the BootROM and will just boot your current macOS installed.
  3. NVRAM is even working? If you have a corrupt NVRAM volume, you won't be capable to stage the firmware upgrade.
  4. Some early-2009s are impossible to be flashed to MacPro5,1 with cross-flashing methods.

If you folowed two different recipes and did everything correctly, maybe you have one of the impossible to flash and need the BootROM reconstruction service.

Too low. Replace it with a new Panasonic BR2032.

"NVRAM is even working?" - I'm a Mac newbie: I don't know the answer. Could you help-me on this, please?
