I've done a pretty thorough search of the forums (at least I think I have) and I see that it's fairly well known that flash has some issues with Macs. Or at least Safari apparently.

The problem I'm having with it is that it's crashing my computer too. If I have the most recent version of Flash installed and I hit a flash media heavy site the chances are pretty good that my computer will freeze up.

Not just my browser (I use Flock... but I get the same thing when I use Firefox or Safari), but my entire system. My computer is completely unresponsive leaving me no alternative but to reboot.

Which I hate doing.

Sometimes I'll get graphic hiccup and then my mac will show me the nice grey "Please restart your Mac" overlay.

Which I hate.

When I uninstall Flash I have no problems. No crashes, but then again no flash when surfing the net.

So far I've seen discussions about various versions... usually in the form of rXXX. I have no idea what this means, and the adobe site just presents the most recent flash player as 9.0.124.0 .

Oh, computer specs are in my sig, and as far as crash logs I've not been able to find any. Computer usually locks up and goes boom, preventing any crash logs from being created, at least that's what I think is happening. I might be looking in the wrong place.

Any ideas suggestions?

I've repaired permissions before and after installing any Flash player, but still the system freezes occur.

Thanks in advance.

Having similar problems.

I was having some big problems with Flash Player crashing my (mac) browsers, I think I may have just resolved it, but time will tell.

Before, I had 9.0.124.0 debug player installed. As soon as I upgraded to it from the previous version, ALL the browsers I use were crashing when I went to any page that had a bunch of Flash media. Firefox 3.0/2.0, and Safari always crashed on the same pages before the pages finished loading. For a while I was relying on Opera which didn't have a problem at first, but after a while it started doing it too, on the same pages the other browsers were.

I don't think I've had Flash Debug player freeze my system at all.

What fixed the problem is when I installed the standard release (non-debug) Flash Player 9.0.124.0. I tried going back to the debug player but is immediately was having the same problems again.

I'm using a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM. Running OS X 10.4.11. Latest versions of all Browsers installed.

I'm a web developer so I need the Debug Player installed sometimes, but it looks like I'll have to go to and older version to do my debugging.

I haven't seen any issues with Flash. Can you give an example of a site that crashes your system? Let's see if I get the same results.

I have terrible performance at times, thank you Adobe, but not any crashes. And this is on an almost 5 year old PowerBook (10.5.3).

The DEBUG version of the 9,0,124 player reliably crashes Safari and Firefox on Mac 10.4 PPC. One of the sites mentioned (http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.htm) will do it every time.

The RELEASE version of the 9,0,124 player does not suffer from the same problem. If you're seeing browser crashes at Flash heavy sites, install the RELEASE version of the player.
