Developer Thomas Joos has ported Flash Lite to the iPhone as a stand-alone application, according to iPhone Atlas.

The port does not represent a Flash plug-in for Mobile Safari, but rather as a method for mobile application development. For more information on Flash Lite, see Adobe's website.

Adobe has previously stated that they have a version of Flash in development for the iPhone.

For whatever reason when I read that at first I thought that some one had brought a Flashlight app to the iPhone, but I just woke up so it's not surprising that my reading comprehension isn't that great :D

As the article states, this is to provide a flash "development" environment. Apple will not permit it, so if you want it you will need to jail brake.

A version of flash that all is does is media play would likely be accepted by Apple, but not one that allows application development and or running external code.

Lets be realistic.

Flash sucks. I do not want it on my iPhone, and I hope Apple sticks to their guns, banning even a standalone application for it.

I love flash and can't live with out it, and apple should release flash for it iphone

I have the flash plugin disable on my browser and will be glad not to ever have flash on my iphone. But some other people do want it, but Apple will stick to their guns and those will be unhappy.

Love it or hate, it would be nice to have at least the OPTION of using it.

Flash is such a major plugin on the net. Some sites you can't even use (Zillow.com) without flash. I know I'm stating the obvious.

Anyway, it looks pretty neat what they did. Hope to see it on the 3g

Flash Lite is not the same Flash that is used on computers. Flash Lite is a bare bones version of Flash for mobile devices that only runs a subset of "real" Flash. In effect, applications need to be made specifically for Flash Lite to run, and there are very, very few such applications that I've came across. Flash Lite is basically useless as far as I'm concerned.

Exactly. Flash Lite.... I'll pass.

I just don't see how they would implement hovering on websites with the multi-touch display. I guess you could do something like single tap to view a menu but that still seems a bit inefficient.

Flash doesn't suck...

...sucky Flash sucks.

(and it's a shame so many people can't make that distinction)

I guess none of you like watching proper streaming video on your iPhones then....you know....like normal people......?

I dont want text messaging on my iPhone therefore no one should have it ;)

Text Messaging and Flash are not the same. Flash drains battery life, is annoying to many people, and is horribly slow on the Mac. Even allowing flash as an option will poison the iPhone environment, because sites will start requiring it in their iPhone versions. It would soon enough NOT be an option, obviously. If Apple continues not to allow flash, people will start using standards, like the canvas element, that are supported by the iPhone.

He's not being serious - he's referring to those people who say 'they don't want / like flash, therefore, no one should have flash'.

I need flash for the iPhone. There are some websites that require flash. If people don't want it, disable it. Don't speak for the rest of us
