If I wanted to buy an iPhone model with the flattest camera bump, which would be the most suitable model from those currently sold new? Something like the iPhone 17 regular? 16e?

16e certainly has the smallest bump - just the single camera lens.

17’s two cameras aren’t “dramatically“ taller on their own, but on the 17 the cameras are located on a hump that makes them stick out farther from the body itself. On the 16e, there’s no separate hump, just the camera.

The above is correct; but if you use a phone case, then the camera bump is usually mitigated and doesn't really matter anyway.

For example, the back of the iPhone 17 in Apple's Silicone Case ends up being just as flat, if not flatter, than a naked 16e. Or you can get 3rd-party cases to eliminate the bump completely.

The size of the camera sensor dictates the size of the camera bump. The 16e has the smallest sensor by far.
