In his defense, my RSS reader that cached the story does indeed say it is free. This error must have been corrected very quickly because the article now says $0.99 :)

Yeah, I was confused when people started responding saying it was $0.99, because the article said it was free when I read it.

Finally customisable keyboards on iOS! I have the Fleksy app on my phone and it really is lightning fast. The autocorrect is spot on 99% of the time and it looks sleek. Definitely getting this when iOS8 drops.

It's an "Apple Knows Better" Usability decision

^ +1. Seriously, we're on the iPhone 6 already. It has a digital keyboard, not a physical keyboard. How tough could it be to show the upper-case letters in upper-case and the lower-case letters in lower-case. I will gladly pay to install any third-party keyboard that has this feature. We should not have to jailbreak for this.

In fact, we shouldn't need a third-party keyboard for this =)

I don't know if there's any truth to it, but what I've heard is that it is the way it is because UPPER CASE letters are easier to recognize than their lowercase counterparts with less variation between typefaces and general characteristics.

I just want a CAPS key where I can intuitively tell whether the damn thing's on or not

I don't understand why they don't just put a little green "light" on it like the desktop keyboards. The solid or wireframe nonsense is meaningless.

Trying it out now. I like some of the features, but I'm definitely going to have to get used to some things.

It's funny how Apple can be so righteous and perfect and yet, after all these years, can't give us options on the keyboard so we can see lower case vs upper case on the keys or a decent caps indicator!

Like no other phone manufacturer does it already?

This truly makes me laugh.

Now available, tried to buy it, says try again later.

Funny, I search on my iPhone for it in the App Store, and it's not there.

Spell check much?

For boasting 'advanced autocorrect'... they can't even spell correctly in their advertisement.

Select the size that suits you best from Small, Orignal and Large

Finally downloaded it on my Mac and iPhone 5S (doesn't show in iOS iTunes Store for me either). First impression: wasn't "wow'ed" but may need time to adjust and "evolve" with my typing style. The enter and delete keys need time to adjust. Also downloaded Swiftkey, haven't used it yet.

How come I can only click the Up arrow on your comment once? :)

Or all the keys on the keyboard change between upper and lower case characters. That would solve everything for me. That was a nice, simple hack I had on a jailbroken iPod touch once.

Switftkey does that, so happy!

My issue with this keyboard is the fact that I was always taught that after a period, we should always insert two spaces and start a new sentence. Adding two spaces in fleksy adds a second period.

I downloaded the SwiftKey keyboard earlier, and it does do this. I was REALLY excited to see that! The Apple keyboard was one of the main reasons my Galaxy Note 10.1 has gotten a LOT more use than my iPad. Right now I still like the Samsung keyboard better though, because I don't have to switch "modes" as much- the keys are smaller and the main keyboard has a row with the number keys along the top, and hitting the "symbol" button takes you to a second screen with all the punctuation marks and other commonly used symbols. On the iPad it's always frustrated me that to do a hashtag on Twitter I have to first go to number mode, then from there go to another screen with more symbols. Hopefully something similar to the Samsung keyboard will show up on iOS.

On a similar note, I'm really curious why Apple thinks the screen on the iPhone 6 Plus is so spacious that more keys can be added to the keyboard, yet the full-size iPad still needs to hop between three screens...

I was thinking this as well. I bet iPad takes cue from the 6 Plus in the near future.

"fastest keyboard in the world" apparently they haven't tried nin/hipjot.. because i type 4x as fast with that than i ever did fleksy.

so using one of these 3rd party keyboards means the developer gets to see what you type? and they use a users Facebook and google + account to check on words?

Yep, i installed it, couldn't work it out and it wanted total access to the word you type (iphone states it could have access to bank card numbers being typed), so im not using it.

What is Fleksy's appshopper link address?? I cannot find it?

Also, does it require the FULL ACCESS?

I am only using Swype because it does not require it.

That was back when we had typewriters to separate sentences. Modern recommendations indicate on space after a period ending a sentence.

Flesky requires full access if you want to send crash logs and the such, but it is not needed to work as intended.

Swiftkey (for free currently) has this feature on iOS 8

Where does one find the 3rd party keyboard store to download/purchase these?

Just check the 'normal' App Store app on your iPhone/iPad and search for them (Swype, Swiftkey, Touchpal, Minuum, Fleksy). Or you could check the category 'Services' where most of the keyboards are.
