I mostly like my 15" 2018 MBP. Still don't care for the keyboard though. Whenever I get back to my Surface Book 2, I find myself missing the tactile keyboard experience. The MPB feels fragile. So it hardly gets used as a mobile computer. I really hate how much I spent on it.

Also, macOS has not been as stable as it has in the past. Win10 has caught up rather rapidly. I find myself missing it at times.

This is just another reason (on a very long list) of why my 2014 MacBook Pro will be my last. Apple doesn’t care about the Mac anymore and their new “we love the Mac” marketing rhetoric only proves the point that they don’t care about it anymore.

Of course Apple still cares about the Mac, but everyone knows the future of Mac is iPad.
MacBooks are still the very best laptops money can buy in terms of build quality, precision engineering and software experience. But macOS is not long for this world as we're all transitioning to an iOS only world.

And I don't see this as a good sign. One thing is to look forward (s**t happens). Needing a further insurance while you pay a premium price for a product that may show up as badly designed...too.much

I agree. Not sure I can warrant the continual rising prices and limited repairability options without AC+
I'll stick with my 2014 until it dies and then may consider a Windows laptop.

But the gap is shrinking fast, and at some point I think many will reconsider if they are worth the premium.

It seems like this generation of MacBook Pros is turning out to be a bit of a lame duck. To anyone in the UK, remember that the Consumer Rights Act entitles you to a repair or replacement of a product if it's not of "satisfactory quality or fit for purpose" up to 6 years after purchase. The flex cable is obviously not of satisfactory quality.

the battery of my mbp 2017 was dead after one year and 10 days. the whole repair process (me->dealer->apple->dealer->me) was 87 days.
with my old but good mbp 2011 i changed a new battery after 7 years within 3 days by myself and it costs 30 Eur.

Better than average Windows laptops command a premium too. HP and Dell prices have been skyrocketing in recent years and they are nowhere close to Apple when it comes to build quality. You then also have to deal with Window$ 10.

My goodness Apple. I had just about talked myself into a new Macbook too. I didn't buy AppleCare for my last Macbook b/c the one before that was so reliable. My 2013 Macbook Air is not worth much on trade and has been extremely reliable and still works fine and is enough for most of what I do. I guess I'll just keep it. :-/ Hopefully Apple will do what they done in the past with issues like this and offer some sort of replacement program with or without AppleCare.
