I've used Fantastical for years on iPhone and really like it. I'd love to have it on the Mac as it's that little bit better than the (free) Apple one.

But $40... per year... for a calendar app. $400 every 10 years.

I'm sorry, but much as I'm happy to pay for quality, and happy as I am to hear of other saying 'it's worth it', I just have to admire their balls. It's not worth it. Don't be ridiculous. Unless it triggers an alert on your birthday and sends someone round with a free BJ, then it's criminally priced. IMHO.
$40 per year for an app I use multiple times a day across multiple devices is a steal.

Honestly, I don't mind paying on a subscription model if it supports the development of the product, especially for smaller developers. Fantastical has worked really sell for me, and the feature improvements are always welcome.

I am also an Adobe Creative Suite user and if I compare what I used to pay for boxed Photoshop upgrades with what I spend on subscription fees for CS, it's not so bad, plus I know that my software is consistently up-to-date (OK -- perhaps Adobe isn't the best example, but I think a lot of smaller developers would disappear without the subscription model, as much as I dislike it).

They just price hiked it from 40 to 56.99. Time to find an alternative.

Ouch. Looks like Flexibits is targeting businesses now. I find I don’t really use any of the zoom integration features and just want a simple calendar app with natural language input (which was what it started out as), and it’s come to a point where I find myself paying way too much for way too many features that I simply don’t need.

When I see these icons, I immediately think of the developer and wonder how this stranger may have made me angrier about anything than I have been in my entire life. This is an unreasonable reaction to have about anything, but I give myself this one allowance. The worst part is knowingly submitting to these feelings, which puts all of the power in their hands.
