Ok I may have found the forth worthy iOS game, actually multi-platform, because I’m playing it currently on iOS.
Metal Storm: 5v5 PVP, “free to play” 🤔, different battle modes, all fairly quick matches.

As someone who has been playing flight sims since Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat, I’ve been vested flight sticks. In MS and virtual controls, it’s relatively difficult with a virtual flight sticks, cursor control which is practically the same thing, or tilt control, tilt the iPhone or the iPad to make turns. For me, tilt control is the easiest, because I basically hate virtual controls, and it frees up a swipe on the screen to use other virtual controls. Even with this, knock on wood, I have a 75% win rate online.

I’m kind of concerned that when this makes it to the PC/Mac cross platform (listed on Steam as a future release), if there is such a thing, it will not be competitive for anyone not using a flight stick. 🤔

That said, I wonder how a blue tooth iOS controller might work with this, and ordered one to check it out. 🤔 Anyone have any experience with this?

Ok I’m properly indoctrinated in Metalstorm. Never thought I’d be playing a flight sim again. Fast matches of different types, deathmatches, control points. Big thumbs up!

I started out with iOS on iPad and virtual controls, which I’ve basically always hated, but of the 3 virtual schemes, virtual joystick (swipe on scream), tilt screen, cursor control (swipe of screen), tilt screen is the easiest, cause it frees up a finger to do other things. I felt I was pretty good, got several MVPs, but your maneuvers are somewhat limited. You might find yourself yelling at your screen “TURN DAMN you!!!” as you’ve got youe iPad tilted 90 degrees, shaking it. 😉

Then in quick succession, I discovered you can use a Bluetooth iOS Controller, there is the PC version planned for Steam (PC), and it’s already available on Epic Games Store (PC)! So I downloaded (free game, with in-game reduce grind purchases), model similar to Wargaming, and War Thunder, hooked up my Windows controller and off to the races on my PC.

Then I read up on this game, and discovered you must invert the verticle mode, so your joystick acts like on the airplane, forward is down, backward is up. Then go “advanced turn” not “standard. This really sets you free to execute flight maneuvers like barrel roles and loops. If you are not used to it, it’s more work to fly, I use my left stick for up, down, roll left and right, and although I removed left and right look off the right joystick, which is nice, I prefer to have yaw in the right stick. This lets me push the nose left or right when gunning an enemy Aircraft. There’s an obvious learning curve and rules to live by, of which I’ll post my notes later. 😁

It seems like a game you would want to play when you are physically alone.

All the tilting, lifting, and yelling at your iPad might get you strange looks from people observing you :).

I’m now playing MetalStorm on my PC, no yells except for dodging 2 missiles and the third one gets me. I’m trying to figure out what the leveling system here is, if it’s by pilot level, or by aircraft chosen, because some aircraft are killers that Korea era aircraft have a hard time competing with. Some planes should be here. One example is the A6 a Vietnamese era attack aircraft that has zero business in a dog fighting sim, I don’t like it, but am saving up for an A4 which seems to be effective in control point matches. The F5 is a trooper. Also have a MiG21, MiG23, Mirage 3, and recently picked up an F4.there is a ton of grind in this game, which can be mitigated a little with $. 🤔 I’m so used to spending $ to buy ships in World of Warships, I will spend $10 on a level package per aircraft that is offered and probsbly the season pass which accelerates earnings.

It sounds like the Witcher 3 was shot down by this new game :).

Best laid plans…ah no. For Xmas we visiting my Son, and I have MetalStorm loaded on my iPad configured with a wireless X-box/pc style controller.
Xmas Eve: I runs like a champ. But of note, the wired controller has better fidelity on my PC than the wireless, I’d say the same on the iPad although there is no wired option.
Xmas Day: I launch MetalStorm and… my controller is not working in game, although it’s connected. After a disasterous match, I go to settings, and the “binding” section is missing in the Settings menu. This is where you program your controller. I reinstalled the game, hoping it would correct the situation. Nope. I’m wondering if there was an update? 🤔
I did get this controller configured to use on my Son’s PC, when he’s not using it, but even there it is distinctly less good than the wired controller, that I left at home.
Well, we’ll be home soon! 🙃

Just opened MS on the iPad and no Bindings section in settings. It's there on the Mac Desktop Vs.
On the iPad I seem to be running client version 185.

Thanks for confirming!
I swear they were there cause on this trip I changed the controller settings on my iPad and they were available to change. Now they are not, so this a mystery to be solved, like if there is some connection between your account and having it on PC, or there was an update that removed controller settings on iOS. 🤔
I will insist that you are not competitive trying to playing this using screen swipes.

Not sure if this is just the "Metal Storm" only topic.

Available on one of the Flight Simulator sites this for download, Lufthansa anniversary livery for the FlyByWire A380:

In real life, the following will planes will get this beautiful livery:

Apparently the promo video was done in MS Flight Sim! Just shows how real things are getting.

This is flight sim talk! 🙃 In a way reminds me of SWest’s Shamu paint job although this is clearly a bird…

Yep, it’s a crane (Gruidae) - the mascot of Lufthansa. I wish it was the standard colour scheme, it’s beautiful and elegant.

I know they have their issues here and there but they are one of the legendary and iconic airlines and have shaped air travel as we know it.

  • Not a flight sim, was this mentioned in a post already? Maybe What Are You Playing?
  • Great visuals, engaging narrative.
  • Vishal aides to help you find the current target.
  • Horribly arcade, can’t even call it a flight model.
  • Played with a controller, but I could not figure out how to change controls, if you can? I want it to match my other sim, played with a controller.
  • Sensitivity was bad.
  • Uninstalled.
