I've always wondered what this means!? The little fold over on either the top right hand corner of an icon or on the bottom left of an icon. Here are some pictures.

I always thought the one on the left is a note, like a post it. The other is a regular document style.
 
I guess it's to distinguish between the kind of text file it is?

The one on the left is a text clipping which just opens in Finder. Any other document that has a fold on the top-right corner opens up in an application.
