I figure this is a better forum than the iPhone forum to ask current users of foldable phones their impressions of Apple's first foldable. I haven't closely followed foldable Android phones, so am genuinely interested. Did Apple break any new ground (hardware or software) or is this mostly a rehash of what is already available on the Android side? Would the Duo tempt you back into the iPhone fold?

It was about as expected, but also much better then expected in some ways. You aren't going to have the customization of the Samsung Fold, but you have much more durability. Its looks very compelling, but Apple is also the best at marketing. The most exciting new iPhone for me in many years though.

Lots of refinements and nothing ground breaking for me. I love that they put the udc, pen compatibility, magsafe obviously and the flex hinge (I never used it on my previous Fold 7). This should pressure Samsung to bring these features back but if they do then I suspect it will come at a cost of the price, weight and thickness. I love the current thickness and weight of the Fold 8. I really only want the udc. Magsafe would be great but I have a magaafe case so it negates the need for it. The Duo is definitely great competition that Samsung needed. The animation when opened is really nice and not surprised since Apple puts attention to the little things that one wouldn't think of. I still prefer Android overall but I'm glad the Duo now exists and it'll push Samsung to stop cutting corners.

I think it's a great beginning for Apple especially with pen support and flex mode where the Fold wide removed flex with only the Ultra with it,and removed pen support on both, I like how they move bottom icons to side while in apps and animation transition looks to be quality. I love my Samsung side edge panel and Good Lock customization plus 3 apps side by side on screen work for my usage preferences. IP68 and magsafe like Pixel Fold excellent and most important hopefully developers on board with apps compatible and all in all excellent

IP68, MagSafe, under display camera, pencil support, nano texture display, antiglare coating on both screens. Everything from a hardware perspective looks awesome. Only downside is it is thicker and heavier than the Z Fold 8, but I think it’s a decent trade off.

Apple also seems to have done a good job on the software front with repositioning interface elements for easy one-hand use. But it definitely wants to be a right pocket home in my pants, so that will need me to relearn nearly five decades of muscle memory.

Yes, even though I’m right handed I usually hold my phone in my left hand and carry it in my left pocket.

Really looking forward to this one. I don’t care for the look of the rounded corners as I prefer the symmetry of the ZF8 style when the phone is closed but everything else sounds and looks amazing. I get the gripes about the weight but imagine Apple went with a titanium frame for durability. Right now I’m leaning towards keeping my 17PM when I need the better camera, adding a Duo, and possibly spinning off my Trifold on Swappa. I’ll still have a 10PXL and S26U when I need to get my Android fix.

I've seen a few short clips and it looks pretty slick. I'll have to see more about it as reviewers get their hands on it but I think it's going to be a big hit.

Are you going to try the iPhone Handoff feature between the 17PM and Duo?

The iPad mini supports the Apple Pencil (and Pencil Pro).
Agreed, I have a Mini 6 and use the pencil (and 3rd party options) often.

Personally, 0% interested in this device (or any foldable). Apple needs to release an iPad Mini with more pro features than the current product.

- Full flagship processor
- Tandem OLED screen
- Kill the bezels like this foldable has
- Boost the RAM
- Full Thunderbolt speed, enough of this garbage on the USB-C port

Software / UI wise, Apple clearly does much better than Android.
Hardware wise, I'm not sure. The spec seems much better than Fold 8 ultra that I have except the camera spec. Increased weight is somewhat trouble some, but definitely something I want to try out and see how well it's made.

If I didn't need to use android only security app for my work, I'd consider Duo next time.
Always Pro or Pro Max for my personal phone. So I have no plan to move to Duo in order to replace my personal phone.

Well, I was dead-set on getting the Fold 8. It's great and really well done. However, the Duo's addition of the pencil made me switch to it. I still have my S25 Ultra with s pen so I keep my foot in the android space. Samsung's UI is great along with GoodLock. In fact, it will stay as my primary but the Duo looks so good. Recently, I returned my iPhone 17 Pro Max and miss my iOS fix, too. I think Apple's inclusion in the foldables' space is only going to benefit us.
