How about a phone that folds into an iPad which is what everyone wants but you want to keep selling us multiple products instead...

...Which runs macOS when you attach a keyboard - since I'm dreaming anyway.

I'm still shocked they do not sell an iPad that runs OS, but when docked runs MacOS. It wouldn't cannibalize sales because they could charge an insane premium.

I have an acquaintance who has a foldable Android phone. It's awful in my view... even when I try to envision Apple's design and quality aesthetics as much as I can.

The problem I see is that it's just not going to be good enough to get the job done at this point. In 10 years, maybe. But not now... and I doubt even then I would have an interest in this, neither as a phone nor a tablet. It seeks to solve problems that don't really exist.
It solves the problem of having to use two separate devices, one of which is not pocketable, by having both a mini tablet and a phone in one pocketable device. It's not rocket science. I've been using them for the past 2.5 years and trust me, they get the job done. If they didn't, I wouldn't buy them.

The difference between Steve’s Apple and Tim’s Apple in a nutshell and why talented designers have been exiting stage right for years now.

Because they might want this thing to be relatively affordable? Have you seen the prices of dual screen, foldable phones?

Since for years a lot of iOS features translated to macOS, and macOS now runs arm...i think this can be an ipadOS turned into macOS when folded
Otherwise there is no point

The price of a foldable phone really isn't that bad when you consider the cost of a regular slab phone plus the cost of a mini tablet with cellular and similar storage and you get the convenience of two devices in one.

Before I switched to a foldable, my last iPhone 12 Pro Max was $1199 for 256GB and my iPad Mini 5 with 256GB and cellular was $679. $1199 + $679 = $1878. So my first foldable was actually cheaper.

Something about this (assuming it ever happens, mind you) feels like it might be Apple testing the waters, releasing a lesser product (iPad) to see how people react rather than doing it on a bigger product (iPhone).

Kinda like the 12” MacBook felt (or feels in hindsight) like a test of people’s acceptance of USB-C only.

Yes! Then I could have an iPad mini sized display when folded but fold it out into a bigger 13-14” screen when I want to get more work done.

I’m quite excited about this.
But that's assuming the design they come up with also puts a display on the outside of the device as well...

...why?

No seriously, what benefit would I get from an iPad being foldable? I barely get a benefit from an iPad as is because of how awful iPadOS is, so why would I want to spend a lot more to get that in a foldable fashion?

Just further proof Apple doesn't know what to do with the iPad.

I despise the crease these foldable devices exhibit.
How many foldables have you owned and which models were they? I know several people that own foldables and none of them have an issue with the crease, including me. Also, any tech reviewer that isn't an Apple shill says the same thing, the crease is not an issue. So I would love to hear about your personal foldable experience, and please spare me the "Well, I tried it for seven minutes at Best Buy" story.

I want a TV that folds into an iPad. Or a projector screen that folds into a TV. Or some other solution in search of a problem 👍
