I’m not too interested in foldable iPads. What I really care about is whether Apple will ever allow macOS on the iPad Pro.

Then I’d finally have a cellular, OLED, touch-enabled Mac with stylus support.
You know that somewhere in Apple, there is an iPad running macOS! If they can do it for Neo, it's already been done on iPad.

Having a hard time seeing any real benefit to me as a user. An 18” screen just seems unwieldy and awkward for a handheld device.

At that size, I would much rather just use a laptop since I at least get a mechanical keyboard.

Apple is still developing a large foldable iPad despite technical hurdles, and it should feature the same crease-free hinge design as Apple's rumored "iPhone Ultra," its first foldable iPhone expected to launch in the fall.

That's according to Weibo-based Digital Chat Station. The popular Chinese-language leaker implies that Apple's large foldable iPad will create a new market for giant folding tablets, but it's likely to still be some ways off yet.

A report in July last year claimed Apple had decided to pause work on a larger-screened foldable iPad because of development issues, but Bloomberg reported in March that development continues.

According to Bloomberg's previous reporting, Apple wanted to launch the device in 2028, but problems with weight and display technology are likely to cause it to be pushed back until 2029.

The device is believed to have a Samsung-made 18-inch display, and will challenge Apple's long-running tradition of keeping the Mac and iPad as separate devices. Some have referred to it as a foldable iPad, while others have called it an all-display MacBook, but concerns remain about its practicality when it comes to typing.

When closed, the iPad resembles a MacBook, with an aluminum exterior and no outer display. When opened, it unfolds to roughly the size of a 13-inch MacBook Air, but without a physical keyboard. Due to its large display and aluminum chassis, current prototypes weigh about 3.5 pounds, making them considerably heavier than existing iPad Pro models.

An 18-inch OLED foldable display will surely be expensive, too, given that Apple charges $1,299 for the 13-inch ‌iPad Pro. If prices don't come down for components over the next few years, the foldable ‌iPad‌ could cost as much as $3,900. It also sounds like Apple still has work to do to perfect its hinge/crease designs.

Meanwhile, Apple's foldable iPhone, which could take the name "iPhone Ultra," is expected to arrive in the fall alongside Apple's new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, barring any last-minute production mishaps. The folding iPhone is said to feature a 5.5-inch display when closed, and a 7.8-inch display when open, plus a super-thin design with minimal crease and a durable hinge.

thought I read this was cancelled on this very site not long ago .

One of my pet peeves on forums where people think their opinion is the opinion of everyone! Another is people who pull percentages out of thin air and use them like facts -- "90% of people", like you did a poll? 😉
It's especially grim on Apple related posts/sites because it's common knowledge that as soon as one...anything with an Apple on it comes out it will be a universe altering extravaganza that the media won't stop talking about and fans won't be able to wait to get their hands on. See: mid ranges laptops.

Wasnt their just an article a month or so ago about this thing being canceled? I know their was because my comments got alot of thumbs up for saying the idea of a folding ipad is STUPID.... So if this is canceled why are we talking about the hinge on something that makes no sense, and that apparently isn't even coming out? Im really confused on all of this.

A foldable ipad makes no sense because what do we gain from it...NOTHING! a foldable iphone works because when its closed, it works as a normal iphone, but when it opens, it works as an IPAD...see how that works.

When you have a foldable ipad, when its closed...it does NOTHING. but when you open it, its an ipad...ok...what am i gaining from this?

i allready have a foldable ipad, its called an M4 ipad pro 11 inch with a magic keyboard and apple pencil. It works like a laptop when open and attached to the keyboard. When i need it to function like a tablet, i simply take it off the keyboard and it works like an ipad...ALL OF THIS WITHOUT FOLDING THE ACTUAL DEVICE ITSELF.

THE FOLDING PART IS THE HINGE BETWEEN THE KEYBOARD AND THE CASE...NOT THE IPAD ITSELF AND IT WORKS FINE WITHOUT CREASING THE SCREEN OF THE IPAD.

So from a logical practical stand point, how does a foldable ipad offer me something the current ipads dont allready offer me without compromizing the screen so it can fold?

Explain to me why that is worth more money and more beneficial to me cause im happy to give apple a chance on selling me this, but i just dont see the point of it

Great. Now we'll have two Apple products with a design flaw.

If you have a modern, fairly good Android phone, you can buy a 4K 15.6 portable monitor with touchscreen for $152. And a fitting case for $17. Connect your Android phone and you can use it like a tablet. No, not foldable, but large!

Here’s a real idea Apple you can pay me later, why make a foldable phone to begin with the market is already saturated nearly 80% so how do you make more money sell two phones and put them together with a custom Apple sold separately, of course, design hinge that you can sell separately and just use software to link the two phones together less cost more profit or maybe that’s why the iPhone air is so thin?
The fact that there was not one period in this run on run on sentence alarms me more than anything. Commas can only do so much…

You have something as portable as your current iPad but with a screen twice the size, that right there is your benefit. Took me all of 2 seconds to figure it out.

Don't know what dimensions the final product will have, if it ever makes it to market. Think a price tag of $2999 would be possible. Foldable iPhone at $1999 and foldable iPad (or it may simply be a bigger foldable iPhone) at $2999

I think I would buy a foldable iPad over a foldable iPhone. If you could fold it like book or comic and flip pages back and forth like a real book would be buy for me.
