Considering several Android makers make a foldable phone and the ipad mini exist, I'm not sure why you posed this question.
Actually only 3 companies make Android foldable - Samsung, Google and OnePlus. All of their products are having a tough time in the market due to their price points.

Well that's awesome! The line for ordering one will be the shortest ever since (according to macrumors) nobody is going to want to buy this!!!
I don’t know about that I imagine the Vision Pro was short line. But nothing could be shorter than the line of people buying the new Magic Mouse 🐭 🪄 that still charges from the bottom. (I’ll never stop complaining or being in shock that they actually did this)

I have absolutely zero interest in any flippable phone. The day Apple releases a flippable phone, is the day I stop buying iPhones.
Wow. That's like saying I won't buy another Porsche 911 because they now make an SUV.

I doubt that those companies expect their folding phones to be big sellers. It's another option in their lineup.

I want my phone to be small and highly portable without the bulk of the folding panel. … And I worry about that hinge and the creasing.
There is one more thing … to worry about. All the concept renders of the mythical iFold may look nice cause they only show the screen side. Imagine the device when folded, considered how the current iPhones look. That thing must be as thick as three phones almost, because most people forget about the camera abomination we have now and will be glued on the back of this sandwich too. 😉

What? In addition to the three companies you've mentioned: Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo, Motorola (flip style) and Huawei all make foldable phones.

There is a difference between a flip phone and a foldable. A flip phone is like Star Trek’s communicator in form with an actual mechanical hinge. A foldable is literally a display screen itself that can be folded.
And that difference is worth $2,000 (or more) how???

That’s a very good point.

So where is the real advantage and benefit with a foldable phone
Tablet sales have slowed, so maybe that segment of the market have a tablet that will last many years without the need to replace it because of how refined & efficient they are…. When at home.

But when out & about, they may also want that tablet-like experience when browsing, emailing, consuming, if only for a short stint on the train, during their lunch break or on the treadmill.

Also, the aging population with deteriorating eyesight may appreciate reading on the unfolded screen occasionally.

There are other reasons, but I’m surprised you haven’t been informed of the obvious & still need to ask.

As someone who had an LG VX9800, two different Sidekicks, and a Mytouch… I’m not interested in this type of set up, again- especially for that price.

It’s not really. But a mechanical hinge is dead simple and cheap to make while a good foldable display screen that doesn’t show a crease is challenging.
Well, as a shareholder, I hope they sell a few million of them. As a user, I won't be one of the customers for this one.

No, Huawai, Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi....also make foldable phones

So, like I was saying, several

People who like thin devices will tell you that the iPhone Air is their flagship. People who like big phones will tell you that the Pro Max is their flagship.
Don’t be ridiculous. The Pro is the flagship product. Gets the latest chips, latest display tech, faster USB speeds, higher storage.

I want one. But don’t the screens scratch really easy?
They do.
"Ultra thin glass" that is common on foldables is still glass but it's much softer than the glass used on typical smartphone screens.

Also, samsung foldables ship with plastic screen protectors on by default; which scratch even easier. Whether apple phone's will ship with that plastic 🤷‍♂️

Why do people keep thinking iphones are so much more expensive than anything else. They're not. In Canada, the prices are:

- S25 Ultra 512GB at $2099
- IP16 Pro Max 512 GB at $2049

So when it comes to foldables, I don't think the Apple foldable will be more expensive than the Galaxy Fold 6 512GB, which is $2725 CAD.

Think it will be priced at $1999 with higher storage variants running up to $2499. With the Z fold at $1900, the price for $1999 for a 256GB variant seems most likely.

Making such devices is not the same as buying such devices. So you can make everything, but if there is no significant market, you will loose money. In my oponion the market and usecase for suche devices is very limited. This is the case, why i posted this question.

So you want an iPad and an iPhone? Yeah 1 device. I want one to be honest. Zfold’s are actually great phones to use.
I already have an ipad and an iphone, so yes, for me this is the best solution. And if i want a big screen, i can buy a max device. It is also cheaper to buy an iphone and an ipad mini, than a rumored 2000$ foldable iFold or so.
