Way too early to believe these rumors (let’s get through the iPhone 17 first), but buying a first, or even second gen product is usually not a great idea.

Yeah! But it's not like Samsung wouldn't love to have an anti-glare Fold. This is pretty obvious.

I will not buy a glossy iPhone. I had the Fold 6, and had to sell it because of..

1) Extreme gloss
2) It's surface felt like soft plastic, and I was afraid of scratches. Samsung saying to use only a special rubber tipped pen, didn't dissuade me of this. Along with warnings about nails, and user experiences.
The Oppo Find N5 has a more matte-like screen protector on the inner display, so it is far less reflective.

All this whining about a notch or island. It's a design element that doesn't interfere with the device's use even if you don't like the look of it. An unsightly crease in the middle of display is something I think is certainly worth complaining about.

For the record if this thing sells 15 million units in it’s first year as possibly projected, that’s as many as the first iPad sold in it’s first year and it was at the time the fastest selling new tech product in history.
That would be absolutely insane.
Just for a comparison, reports are that the next series of Samsung‘s own folding phones won’t even reach 5 million units, with around 3 million Galaxy flip 7s and 2 million galaxy fold 7s apparently being expected to be produced.
The fact that Apple is projected to possibly sell, not just double, but maybe even triple that with just one single folding phone, is just absolutely bananas.
And once again, more evidence that Tim Cook knows exactly what he’s doing.

I want an uninterrupted display more than any other feature of an iPhone. I am happy to go to a button with TouchID like the iPad Air. Can’t wait for such a device that eliminates islands and just has a tiny hole punch camera. But even that I could do without.
And even then, the hole punch is rumored to be on the outside display, while the inside display will be an uninterrupted 4X3 7.76 inch panel.
The more and more we hear about this device, the more and more it really sounds like Apple, if they’re going to make a foldable phone, is going to do it *right*.

It's funny how iPhone's have parts from Sammy, but Samsung uses zero Apple parts in their phones. Who needs who?
What kind of a comparison is this?
You know the only reason the original iPod was ever able to exist was because of… A Toshiba hard drive?
Apple has never, and will never, be a supplier for other companies.
Also, the original iPhone wouldn’t have been possible without the Samsung CPU inside of it.
Apple has suppliers. If this is news to you, you haven’t been paying attention.
They get their screens from Samsung and LG, they get their cameras from Sony, they get the glass from Corning, and at least until 2027 the majority of their phones will get modems from QUALCOMM.
The Mac, and this might be shocking to you, used to use processors from… checks notes… Intel. And before that, Motorola and IBM.
As for “who needs who”, there is no answer. They both need each other. Apple needs Samsung‘s expertise in display manufacturing, Samsung needs the money that Apple gives them.

The Fold 7 looks to be (according to rumors) the top tier of foldables in the near future.
It also looks to have only about 2 million units they ever plan on making of it, compared to this foldable iPhone, which will have between according to this article 9 and 15 million.

Imagine if Apple were the only player in this space. Imagine if Apple blind loyalists were the only consumers in this space. The blind loyalist would still be looking at their 3.5 inch screen. This is why I continue to say, Samsung's display tech is what truly drives the industry forward for new form factors. Without them putting out the tech in its early stages, we wouldn't be where we are today. We'd all be still looking at boring slab phones. All this BS about the crease is just that, BS. Even from the start, the crease wasn't a deal breaker for those who valued bleeding edge tech, and wanted a bigger form factor that could Fold to a smaller form factor. It has to start somewhere. If it was Apple that did this first, the blind loyalists would have jumped on it, and not cared about the crease. The same way that massive notch/island just seems to be invisible to them. Now Samsung has managed to minimize the crease further, and now that Apple is getting on board, the blind loyalist have decided the crease is no longer a deal breaker. The difference from 1st gen crease to next gen crease isn't actually all that much. The crease will still be there, just a little less. So while Samsung has done all the heavy lifting, Apple is now jumping on board, not because the crease is less, but because they don't want to fall further behind the industry. The blind loyalist can finally get a fold, and just so they don't look like hating hypocrites, they'll say they are now getting a foldable because of the smaller crease. Oh, and of course, they will repeat the mantra of, Apple isn't first but when they come out, they do it best. Right, it's all Apple's innovation for that amazing display tech. Sure.

Good to know. Eagerly waiting to see the first foldable from Apple. Would love to have FaceID instead of TouchID.
