SO excited, SO pumped about this device and foldables in general, this tech will allow the combination of the UI and the UX of iPhone and iPad.

IMO, foldable tech will create new categories of mobile devices, amazing form factors and this one is the first of them (might not be named iPhone/iPad, maybe ... to differentiate).

The view it’s not nice it must be more of the Pro Max wen folded.

Good thing I read Kuo's original blog post.

"as Face ID may be absent due to thickness and internal space constraints."

May. Not a sure thing.
Also, watch the iPhone 17 Air magically overcome these so-called "internal space constraints" this fall and get FaceID.

Because Touch ID is much superior! and hopefully they'll bring it back to their other models.
It isn't superior on a foldable phone that is held in multiple different configurations. Unless there are multiple touch id sensors, this would be a major pain point in unlocking the device.

How would you unlock your phone with Face ID if its facing down…? because I can grab and unlock a device using Touch ID in any position you can think of without having to look at the screen.

FaceID > TouchID

This. I'm not buying a device with an outdated fingerprint reader. There are just way too many scenarios where TouchID is useless (gloves, dry hands, need to grip the device in a certain way) and very little, where FaceID doesn't work well.

I do hope they replace it on lower tier iPads and Macbooks as soon as possible. Also Studio Display would very much benefit from it.

Yeah I dont understand why folks are clamoring for TouchID.
Sure, FaceID could do with some improvements like a little longer distance and a wider angle, but its pretty great as it is now.

I only remember there being rumors about the fold having Touch ID. Were there ever rumors about it having Face ID (in either screen)? Did I miss it?
Apple puts Touch ID on its least expensive phones and tablets so it wouldn't go on something premium like the iPhoneBook. If the unfolded camera is under screen then it probably means FaceID works under screen as well, but I doubt it would have both authentication methods.

I'm surprised and will be surprised if Apple went "backwards" from FaceID to TouchID for this flagship phone. There's more evidence of them simply cancelling or delaying a project to make sure it has the best features than just "making do" when something doesn't work.

When has Apple ever rushed something to market and compromised , well maybe apart from the Magic Mouse 2

2000$ is cheap, I expect at least some 3k. Would be better IMHO. Don‘t cheap out on the price tag. Innovation must have a price tag, see AVP. Don‘t cut the profit margin.

I was hoping to have Touch ID back, but not like this.

Well, this article is saying Face ID likely won’t work under screen (article title) because it faces more unique challenges than an under screen camera.
Integrating Face ID under the screen is difficult because the core components that make up the TrueDepth camera system – like the dot projector and infrared camera – need a clear, unobstructed view to accurately scan your face. Current display layers block or distort infrared light, which degrades the system's ability to create a secure 3D facial map. Fully under-display Face ID will remain a technical hurdle until displays can transmit infrared light cleanly.

So my guess is FaceID & Dynamic Island on the outside and Face ID in thicker bezels on the inside because there would be a lot of wasted screen space on either side of the inside Dynamic Island

I would guess such a decision would be based on simple UX issues. A foldable’s two halves must each be thinner than a non-foldable to avoid being an absolute brick when folded, and so far manufacturers think they need a substantial external screen because the users—and/or the screen materials—will not put up with unfolding it for every single interaction. (Which makes me think they’re really not a winning concept in their current form, but I digress.) The Face ID components are thus far still quite thick, so you'd need to back them into a camera bulge for an otherwise thin design, but for a foldable the external screen and the rear cameras are on different halves of the device so this isn’t possible. The right-hand half of the internal screen is backed by the rear casing and could host Face ID, but this means the Dynamic Island is now badly off-center, which probably drove the design department nuts; worse, it’s not usable until you open the device, so some other solution is necessary for the external screen. Meanwhile, a single Touch ID sensor could be used consistently whether the phone is unfolded or folded, and reduces the BOM to boot. It’s the logical choice—the problem is it’s not a Think Different choice.
