just tried to make a new folder on the desktop; i can enter the name but the folder is not visible. mac os x 10.8

just tried to make a new folder on the desktop; i can enter the name but the folder is not visible. mac os x 10.8
Right click on the desktop and click arrange by, then set it to name.
