Is it possible to set up a folder on my mac, which when i drop a file in sends it to my FTP folder? So they are both synchronized.

I want to do this so a business partner and I can easily synchronise files for stuff.. just simple .doc files

Uh... can you use something other than FTP? FTP is horrendously insecure and outdated.

If the server supports SSH, then you can use unison to sync -- you could even set up a scheduled task or a Folder Action to sync automagically.

hi there, i tried unison but it seems it's more tuned towards newsgroups

is there one which acts like a folder on my desktop?

thanks for the reply

MediaTemple supports SSH. You'll have to talk to your host (or read their help pages) for more information.

Ah. You tried Unison, not unison. Unison is a newgroup reader made by Panic software. The one you want is an open source program designed to synchronize a remote and local folder -- it's exactly what you're after.
