Does anyone know if there will be folders in this update? It would be nice to have similar apps in specialized folders. That's all, thanks.

There has been no evidence thus far that this will be a feature of the 3.0 software, but it certainly would be a welcome addition.

How hard would it be for Apple to implement folders? It seems like it would be a perfect fit with the existing touch and drag system.

Just because something isnt that hard, does not mean it will get done.

Is it hard to step on a kitten? no. Should it be done just because it can be? no.

I think apple wants to keep the springboard the way it is now, the simplest navigation possible. And yes i know the "but I have X pages of apps" people will respond to me, but thats exactly why they put in the search function.

Love your comparison :p

If Spotlight is your solution, then there is no reason to have app pages at all.

On the other hand, I think folders would probably be even worse unless they include functionality in iTunes to organize your apps. If you are trying to move an app, how will it now you want to drop it into a folder instead of taking it's place? How do you move an app out of a folder?

Right, which leads me to believe (hope!) they might have something big up their sleeves. After all, they have apparently hired theme designers from MacThemes ...

Source?

Um, what? App pages are the most straightforward way to navigate apps.....

Personally I could care less about folders with regard to the iPhone. The design of the OS and interface is such that you generally don't need to have folders. I also think the majority of users, i.e., non-ubergeeks would not want the complexity of folders thrust upon them. I know a fair amount of iPhone users and they have only three maybe four screen panels worth of apps and they organize apps by the screen panels, if they need too.

Says you.

I wish to high heck they offered folders. (Or stacks.)

I don't like having 10 pages of apps.

In fact, I would like to have 4 pages MAX. (Home page, Work page, Games page, Utilities Page)

Then have folders or stacks to organize stuff on the page.

To each his own obviously. :D

that is true, but it makes sense to have stacks on the dock.

I'm hoping they do something, at the very least folders like the OP suggested. Also I want to be able to move more than one icon at once. I highly doubt we'll see official support for themes.

Perhaps all photos should be on the main menu page as well. And all the separate device setting categories.

Oh wait... photos are in folders. And device settings are all grouped in one place.

I can't believe some people are against folders. After all you don't have to use them.

i use the jailbreak app "categories"

it works like this: you have a folder and you can name it whatever and put whatever apps in it.

if 3.0 has that feature. then i'll probably unjailbreak my ipod touch. been expiriencing some lag from the jailbreaks. but the only thing keeping me on is the folder organisation. i have tons of apps and having folders really helps me organize my apps with no clutter or having to move between pages constantly to find a certain app.

if 3.0 allows themes that'd be a BIG plus and i'd so go legit forever :p

I wish there was a menu or favorites icon. It would be one of the icons on the dock. When you press it, it would bring up a half screen pop up menu with all your favorite apps, represented by smaller icons, in what ever order you wanted them arraigned. They could be arraigned alphabetically, recent, most used etc. This way there is no need to swipe and swipe.

"Stacks" is available in Cydia.
