I am also using the App "Categories". I love the idea of having folders because all the apps you can have without needing a lot of pages. I have over 100 apps on 1 page (because of folders) and only have 3 pages on my iPod.

I agree that Apple probably won't have folders in future updates but their could be stacks. Sometimes, it can take 8 seconds to load a folder that has a lot of apps in it. Stacks would seem much easier to use with Multi-touch and more graphically appealing.

Just because something isnt that hard, does not mean it will get done.

Is it hard to step on a kitten? no. Should it be done just because it can be? no.

I think apple wants to keep the springboard the way it is now, the simplest navigation possible. And yes i know the "but I have X pages of apps" people will respond to me, but thats exactly why they put in the search function.

Is that the best example that popped into your head. lol

I understand that Apple wants to keep their navigation simple but why not allow users to enable a folder feature from the preferences. If Apple wants to compete with Blackberry and other smartphones they need to start giving us better features for more tech savvy users. Anyway, I think folders would be a nice option that many people would use if they could.

No, no they dont. The reason being that tech savvy people are a fraction of the market, its far easier to go for the low hanging fruit as theres LOTS more of it.

Dont get me wrong, i would use it if it where there (i use categories on my ipod) but Apple doesnt NEED to do it by any stretch of the imagination.

If Spotlight is your solution, then there is no reason to have app pages at all.

On the other hand, I think folders would probably be even worse unless they include functionality in iTunes to organize your apps. If you are trying to move an app, how will it now you want to drop it into a folder instead of taking it's place? How do you move an app out of a folder?

Cut and paste.

I would like to have at least one home folder to be able to store documents, clippings, etc., and the ability to create mail folders on the iPhone itself.

I think it would be a smart move to add the feature. It is just one feature that people could use if they chose to. Some crowds would completely ignore it. But I think most people would use this feature given the option. Sure they could get by without doing it but i'm sure it would be given high praises if they added some folder/stack system that worked for the iphone. They can still keep the iphone simple while giving it better features.

If they are going to do it, theyd have to implement it in a way that even your grandma can figure out. Apple is about ease of use, I just dont see a very intuitive way of going about it.

You're looking at it the wrong way. It would be the option that only the people that wanted/needed to use it would use it. Apple isn't marketing the iphone to my grandma. Also, my grandma would have no use for an iphone and would have no idea how to use it if she did have one. Apple is about stylish innovations that that I don't want to say are entirely about ease but are made where form meets function. I can definitely see how Apple could find a simplistic and innovative way add a folders/stacks option.
