Hi guys,

Just to let you know, my brand new dual 1.8 will be all yours for folding! Still waiting on it to arrive (have been waiting for 3 weeks now...). Anyhow, already started with folding on my mac, B&W, but it got tooo slow, so, unfortunately had to stop. But I will be back!!

Dreadnought

Edit: just downloaded the terminal app from mc68k and this works without slowing down my g3 400. So till that G5 gets here my B&W will be helping you guys out! :D

I just signed up my dual G5 for the cause. I only found out about Folding@Home through this site. A little bit of competition and a good cause just by a screen saver. I love it! :D

Depends on how fast it is. It only has to access when it finishes a work unit and when t does it only needs to make contact for a minute or two. So if you're machine can perform an average work unit in 10 hours then it would need to go online for a couple minutes every 10 hours or so.

You haven't been here long enough to know what these guys are like but let's just leave it at, they don't seem to need to impersonate the Knights of Ni rather they seem to actually be the Knights of Ni.

I was a lurker here about a month before I actually signed up and started folding. So I am aware of their taunting. Yes, it seems they think they are the real deal.

Lets just say I like to stir the pot. :D

Congrats on passing the GOONS. But we're not GOONS, we're full-fledged MORONS and we won't go down without a fight .

We see you coming up behind us and thus have erected a sign to warn others of your presence ;) .

You'll have to excuse our lack of taunting. You may recall the last time we were here one of your moderators saw fit to lock all of our threads  .

Folding and SETI?

I've been a long time SETI user, so I'd like to keep it running (I use the graphical version, usually minimized to the dock). I'm thinking of also running the CLI version of Folding. Does anyone out there run Folding and SETI simultaneously? Are they friendly to each other in terms of priority?

The folding Team would love your support... Unfortunately the Processes to not play well and would be at about 40% for each process when your computer is completly idle.

I stopped SETI after reading much about it...

Folding for me seems much more worthwhile.

BTW, The Knights Shall Go DOWNN!!!

:p

Seti and Folding are completely compatible, but ONLY when crunching for the Knights Who Say Ni !;) :p We'll even let you crunch on a MAC, but only if you rip off those dreadful Apple labels and festoon it with "Intel/AMD Inside" stickers :D .

Hmmm, watched the teamscores yesterday and today. Weren't we closer to the Knights yersterday (saturday 3rd jan). It seems somehow that they are getting further away...although our WU count is higher then theirs.

The amount of overhead we have over them is down slightly. This increases the time need to plow them over.

I'm really impressed with our increased output lately...last I checked we'd barely get into the top 20 and now it looks like we're destined to break the top 15. :D

Amazing work, team!

Hehe, we might get near 16-17 range... a break into the Top 15 is asking for a lot.

slow units

What's up with all the small work units everyone including me seems to be getting lately. They've slowed down my work process by almost half.

I've gotten a few too and they will play hell with your production. The p921_vpf912 is the worst one, it takes a G5.2.0 about 10 hours for a big 23 points. The 916, and 917 take 10 hours also but reward you with 30 points, still well below the normal 4 plus points per hour you normally get (per processor) on the G5.2.0.

The 920 is really pretty good with 36 points in about 7 hours. The 922 takes 7 hours for 31 points which is on par with other units.

So getting a few of the 921 can really drop your production. These units are also slow on the window machines which makes me wonder if they didn't just mess up with the point system on this one?

We will just have to ride it out I guess.

both my G5 CPU's are working on p683's @ 60 points each. The AMD is crunching on a p848 @ 32. Dont know what the work CPU is doing besides gasping for air. ;0D

wonder how fast the new G5's are going to be tomorrow? I'll buy another after the fall update and they hit 3 Ghz.

The 683 takes just under 15 hours on mine, which is about average at 4 pph, never had an 848, hopefully it's in the 4.5 minute per frame range?

The G5 is a great machine, mine gets about 1400 - 1500 per week, unless of course you get somee bummer p921 units?
