No, it does not generate alerts. Xenforo has a news feed feature and posts by people you follow would be aggregated there, but we don't really use that feature here. @arn might have more to say about that.

This sums it up. It appears that the "What's New" section is missing (or deliberately hidden) here at MR (unless I just didn't spot it in the menus) but it does exist here https://forums.macrumors.com/whats-new/news-feed and note the "your news feed" tab on the top, this is where posts from those you follow will appear. This is the only feature for following that I am aware of.

So theres no way to make it available in the menu and the only way to check it is to open that link?
