I recently started using a mac and just found out that Apple enabled font smoothing by default. I turned it off and entire OS X looks much sharper, like removal of semitransparent film. I read that this does not disable smoothing completely. Is there a way to force OS X to turn off smoothing altogether? Is smoothing/antialiasing used on IOS? Thx!

the only difference i can notice is the date/time in the menu bar. font smoothing makes it look like it's in bold, does look a bit better with font smoothing turned off.

You have to restart to see changes applied system wide. But some people are less sensitive to such things. For me it was marked improvement, it was bugging me since the day I got macbook
