It's a relative's 700 MHz G3 iBook, Panther 10.3.9.
Now that Office 2008 is out, 2004 licenses are much cheaper, and v.X are -really- cheap.
So my first though was to go for v.X and save some money, however, being a relatively old Mac it can certainly use faster software and I do remember v.X had a dB daemon that ate about 10% of the CPU even when Office apps. where idle.

Opinions ?

I use Office 2004 on a G3 iBook (600 MHz). It's fine. Office 2008 is hella slow on a G3, however, so I don't recommend it. Stay away from Office X, or, put another way, "Mom, dad. Don't touch it! It's evil!"
