And alas this has again become an "I don't use this feature so nobody else should mind" thread.

...

I don't accept the argument that it's not relevant to implement a high res camera module in the MacBook just because some users do and some users don't use it. FaceTime is a highly publicized feature of Apple products and they should keep the standards above average.

I agree, absolutely correct.

Posts like this have never made sense to me.

Funny, his post made complete sense to me.

Posts like this have never made sense to me. The camera spec was published, image quality is important to you, yet you still purchased the laptop. Why complain about it now? Options, buy a camera, Return it, or sell it to someone who fits the "I don't use this feature so nobody else should mind"

If you even read my post you'd notice I did not purchase this particular laptop...

Options, buy a camera(...)

Are you for real?

Not to mention, it's not about the quality of the camera, it's about the quality of the connection.

I can count on no hands the amount of times in 20+ years of traveling for work to Hong Kong, China, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, or wherever where I've ever had a hotel room or office connection strong enough to have a decent HD video session with the wife and kids back home anyway.

Apple's philosophy on the new MacBook helps in this regard- by placing the emphasis on an incredibly slim form factor instead of feature overload, we're packing light, taking just the necessities. An HD cam is not one of them.

And for the first time in a long time I think their priorities were absolutely spot on this time. They already offer options for the power user. Now they have a thin and light ultra book for the everyday user.

Exactly right.

You see the YouTube reviews, you hear what others say, you'd think the rMB is a piece of crap. What they don't understand is that some of us have a powerful and fully-featured workstation machine and require a very lightweight and de-featured road machine and that's what the new MacBook is.

I've got it running Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp and the thing is faster, clearer, brighter, and lighter than the Sony ultrabook its replacing. Oh, it's not fast enough to video edit a 1080p movie? Good. I'm not in film school. Ah, it's not powerful enough to play Mass Effect? Good. I'm not a gamer.

Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, Skype, Web, YouTube, Slingbox and enough battery to fly non-stop from NY to Hong Kong and fits in a hotel room wall safe? Touchdown.

But how are you ever going to get any work one on this piece of junk with those awful keys, awful touch pad, only one port so you can't plug in your CD-ROM, zip-disk, trackball, floppy disk drive, modem adaptor, and everything else you need to live your life like it's 1992?

I'm surviving quite well. Twas in Starbucks today with my MacBook. I'm a rockstar. People want to see the thing, girls want to touch it, I believe I could have traded it for some physical attention from a cute co-ed. This is almost as good an icebreaker as my $60,000 BMW.

That said, it is annoying that there is no Bluetooth in Windows so I have no mouse and that in order to plug in a thumb drive I need a dongle, but outside of those minor issues the new notebook is a home run.

It's not that most people don't use it. It's the fact that your paying $1300 and over for an SD camera.

I'm sure the MacBook 2 will have the HD camera in the same design.

Here we are, 2017, the third version (second upgrade) and still 480p. Maybe, just maybe, they weren't kidding about the design limitations.

This post is even more sad two years later. Never heard of someone bragging about a cheapo $60k bmw, either.
