Hello,

Thanks for previous help; much appreciated.

For anyone using the "Parallels" product to create a virtual partition to enable the use the
MAC OS as well as Windows (I have W10):

a. The MAC hung up on me a few times, not often though, when trying to shut the MAC totally off from the Windows side. Was this just a fluke, or must one go to the MAC side to totally shut down ?

b. Every now and then, I see a program icon on the MAC Dock for what I was just
using on the Windows side. Why should this be ?

Thanks,
Bob

I always shut down Windows first and then shut down the Mac, seems to result in a cleaner start up the next time. I couldn't say for sure that shutting down from Widows is bad. For the icons, the Widows icons on the Apple dock should have two parallel lines through them, it's normal to see them on the dock.

Parallels attempts to make the experience between MacOS and Windows seamless. This includes Windows (or whatever OS you're running in parallels) applications appearing in your dock.

You are also using some terms that make me question your precise knowledge of this software. Particularly 'partition' - Parallels creates a virtual disk image in the form of a single file on your mac. This image file is called [VM Name].pvm. This runs in the Parallels hypervisor as it's own virtual machine. The actual hard drive does not need to be partitioned to run this software.

To isolate the Windows VM from the mac, simply remove the options from the Sharing pane in options:

It is quite impossible to shut the Mac down from a Parallels Windows VM. Parallels is just an application running in the Mac.
[doublepost=1517571793][/doublepost]Hello all,

As always, thanks for help.

Have a better understanding now of what is going on.

I do have to read up, though, on this "Coherence Mode".
Lots to learn.

Thanks again,
Bob
