There are plenty of USB-c to USB adapters for 5$. I'm a little upset about getting rid of the sd card slot which would still fit with this design. But I'm happy to charge from either side of the computer and there will be MagSafe type USB-c soon that will support it. Never used the hdmi cable.
The 15" is more of a bargain compared to the 13". Come with dgpu standard and 256 starting for 400$ more than last years model. If you figure those two it's really about 1-200$.
Better screen, better keyboard(imo), faster ssd speeds, faster all around performance, touch bar, speakers, weight savings and size.
It's a nice upgrade for a few hundred dollars more imo

I will put in one clear and concise sentence the difference between 2012 and 1016.

People don't think they are getting their money's worth.

In 2012, people are willing to pay extra for Retina Display and SSD.

In 2016, people are not willing to pay extra for Touch Bar.

Some think that Touch Bar is a gimmick while others think that Touch Bar is a nice feature to have, but the general consensus is that the Touch Bar is not a must-have feature that they are willing to pay extra for.

Why do you look past everything else. It's not a clear one feature thing. You have to compare everything

Inflation?

$2199 in 2012 (introduction of retina MacBook pros) has the purchasing power of $2312 today. Add $87 for the touch bar.
Ah the inflation... Unfortunately I am not getting any more money than I did in 2012 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
