I recently purchased a modern amp which has an optical input. I am an Apple Music subcriber and wondered if ALAC exists anymore. I'd like to have higher res audio.

For the record I am a record collector and use AM for auditioning future purchases and also convenience in the car.

Thanks

But Apple Music files are not ALAC and I don't see an option. I seem to recall there being an option before. maybe not.

So the only way to have ALAC files is to rip them as such, correct?

Sorry, but I don't read the Apple Music part...
ALAC are to "heavy" for Apple and this cloud service, so they basically "use" your ALAC library to identify the songs and use they "Apple Music version" (compressed and "light weight").
That's the ugly side of all the streming services.
Sorry 'bout that...
