For dual monitor support, can daisy chaining help?

I have a macbook pro 15" that I bought last year.

I currently have a samsung Syncmaster SA850 monitor that I use.
I want to have dual monitors and I am looking at the:

If the monitor supports daisy chaining, does this mean I don't have to get a $300 hub to make dual monitors work?

Thats $$.
Those hubs are $299 and a adapter is $130 sheesh

I bought this and when I connect both monitors to the adapter, my screens are just black and nothing seems to connect.

Do I have to configure my laptop to accept 2 monitors before doing this?

Daisy chaining HDMI/DisplayPort plainly is not supported in macOS, as far as I understand.
