I think at the very least I'll feel a decent base level improvement with any option, but multi-threading seems important here. A 4-core 2.8ghz will be a 15% improvement on multi, but the 2.2ghz 6-core is 73% improvement (based on geekbench scores). I'm heavily leaning on the 2.2 2018 at this point.

Not sure what was driving the "feeling good" snappiness in the store model. GPU? Just better CPU clock speed eliminating any stutter? Faster ram? Either way, felt nice, but that was with zero load involved.

Go with 2.2 eyes closed. Very good combination of performance and money, for the ones who truly need it (like you).

Okay, I did a ton of testing today while today was heavy volume (great testing scenario). 4 tabs of tradingview each, on all 3 browsers.

FWIW, I went to a store on the weekend and they had a 2017 4-core i7 15" on display. Lower spec model. I just fiddled around with the usual sites I use on it, and it was noticeably more responsive than my current Macbook. This is without the live data feed, just using the trackpad to zoom in and out of charts, change timeframes, etc. Maybe faster RAM helps here too? Either way, it felt nice and there's definitely a bottleneck coming from my 6 year old laptop, which isn't surprising.

I don't know if it matters for what you are testing, but the Apple store has super fast WiFi. When my computer was in for a problem it responded a lot faster at the Apple store than at home.

I think the the limitation is not in your hardware, but rather, in software algorithms on the websites you use. There is nothing there that would require a beefy CPU.

Just an update since now I've bought the 2.2ghz 2018 MBP

Performance is stellar. Today markets are going down and the pot stock sector (which i watch) is going bonkers with mega volume. I basically loaded up all my normal stuff + as many tabs of Tradingview as possible and anything else with long live-data feeds, just stress testing it. RAM use is like 12/16gb, more than I use on a normal day by a margin.

No fans on, no slowdown, can command+# through tabs with zero lag or delay. Absolutely stellar.

100% this was a CPU bottleneck issue that is entirely resolved now.

And for reference sake, I used migration assistant so I have all the exact same apps and background processes running as I normally would when I first made this thread.

(I wasn't able to do the 2 monitor setup, ran into a snag with getting that, but dont think that will somehow hurt me at this rate)

Hey @Lvivske Congrats on the purchase and great to hear that evrything works smoothly.

Which configuration did you purchase ?
CPU
RAM
GPU

Thanks,
MilK

Can you use Safari? Safari (despite not being a browser of choice) seems to be quite fast and performant compared to Chrome.
I'm just curious, why do so many people seem to not prefer Safari? I have used them all (Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, and Safari), and I have to say I personal like and trust Safari more than any of the others.

Congrats on the new purchase! Hope it serves you well!

Regarding Chrome:
1) sync with all other Google services
2) Can open session on pc - mobile and keep history
3) Multiple add-ons working with Google drive, Google services (hangout, Google Analytics etc.), Oauth, 3rd party services
4) URL is visible
5) Chromecast
Probably many other that I can think of spontaneously.

Just vastly superior because of all of that.

Ah, I see, and for me I don't use these features, but I can see why some people would prefer it for that reason. In general I am not a huge fan/user of Google other than for their search engine personally. So basically, if you aren't part of that ecosystem its not a big difference between the two.
