I recently bought a 14 inch MBP - have been using a 15 inch for the last year and while the weight difference is pretty minuscule on paper, I definitely feel it. I however, also definitely feel the difference with the nanotexture screen on the 14 inch but I am wondering if you get used to the weight. The weight is the one thing making me hesitant with keeping it!

What do you mean you feel the difference with the nanotexture screen? It doesnt weigh more because of the screen lol does it?

My M4 Pro MBP weighs 1/2lb less than the 2017 MBP 15” (4.02lbs vs. 3.5lbs) it replaced so it’s lighter for me in my case.

I have had both MBA and 14 MBP. The weight difference is noticeable but I believe it's really because of the weight distribution and dimensions. There's no question, the MBA is the more comfortable laptop to carry. However the nanotexture display does matter (to me) and the speakers and battery are significant upgrades. To answer the OP's original question, yes I have gotten used to the weight but anytime I pick up an MBA I waffle....

I had the M4 MBP for a bit over a year and I never did. It's not too heavy, I just didn't care for it. Moved back to the Air with the M5.

...and the vents on the side? I hated picking it up because they would dig into my fingers.

No no - i could have been more clear. I meant, I defininately notice how great the nano texture is. I'm basically weighing whether that difference to me, specifically, is worth the change in the weight.

You're absolutely right because the weight difference isn't much. On paper it's so miniscule but I'm surprised when it's on your lap you do feel it. I guess because the weight is distributed wider on the MBA. On the pro you feel the heft.

To me the nano, and speakers are great. Nano is really what I'm after but unsure if that trade off is for me as yet.

Good to know - and just clarifying, did you have a 14 inch MBP? And what size air did you get?

The human mind is an incredible creation, and one of the aspects is how easily it can adapt and get used to things. I've used a myriad of laptops throughout my life, I quickly and seamlessly got used to a new laptops size/weight.
You're absolutely right. If you think about past laptops, I remember I had a 13 inch MBP from 2009 and one from 2013, and both were actually heavier than the current 14 inch. But never thought "OH SO HEAVY!" as I do now. I think it's because we have this skinnier (and now usable and very nice) air to consider.

you will definitely get use to the weight. I use to carrying around my 16" work laptop. I was holding the 14" MBP the other day and laughed. Then the MBA was comical...

Depends on your perspective. I'm 84 years old and bought the 16" for the extra screen space. Found it to be too heavy and it now sits on my desktop connected to a external monitor. Bought the 14" MBP and it feels like a feather compared to the 16". For me the 14" MBP is perfect giving me the processing power for running Photoshop & LR.

I had the 14" MBP. I have the 15" Air now, which is basically the same weight. It feels different, though.

In hindsight, it was mostly the thickness of it, and I just hated, hated, hated, those side vents. I always pick up my laptops from the side, and just never could get past it. No idea why Apple decides to make them so sharp, and the edges so squared off.

They are beefy. If the weight is an issue I'd say consider the Air, they're far more powerful than people realize. I used to do tons of game development, video editing, audio creation and 3D work on my Air just fine.

I personally got use to the weight but as others have said you have to decide that for yourself.

The 14” MBP feels heavier than it looks or the specs, I think because it is relatively dense - like how a pound of lead feels heavier than a pound of popcorn.
The perception of heaviness also depends on the distribution of mass, not just the amount of mass, i.e., its rotational inertia.
I think this is why the 14” MBP (which I have) feels more “heavy” or “chunky” that the paper specs would indicate.
Just my opinion/impression. Still really like the 14” MPB.

I've owned every size of Mac laptop except 13": 12" PB G4, 17" Intel MBP, 15" Intel MBP, 16" AS MBP (my wife's), and now 14" AS MBP. I love small, powerful laptops, so I'm quite happy with the 14" MBP. It's certainly much easier to tote around than my 17" MBP was, though that was a nice machine for its time. I just didn't bring it to work with me daily like I do since I got the 15" MBP.

Your needs and mileage may vary, some people want the largest screen they can comfortably carry and don't care about power, others want massive power and a big screen, others want the smallest, lightest laptop possible... I'm happy with the smallest possible with the power to do the kind of heavy lifting I need, with photo editing, heavy calculations, and gaming all part of my daily use.

After using only MacBook Air models for 16 years my 14 MBP is arriving today. I’m a bit nervous about the bulk but I now really need it for sustained multithreaded loads

I went from an 11” MacBook Air to a 14” MacBook Pro, so I definitely noticed the weight for a while! Give it a little while and it becomes the new normal.

The thing I really disliked about the 14" MBP M4 I had was how sharp the edges were, particularly on the front.

I really wish they'd dial that down.
Yeah, those edges took a bit of getting used to. I don’t notice them any more, but I do still miss the old MacBook Air wedge.

I only carry my 11" iPad Pro. if I carry my 14" MBP the weight is unforgiving and it annoys me.
