i can't get the yahoo to work every time i try it says something about the number

Aim

What I did is I just logged in with AIM, went into settings under edit and then clicked Mobile. There, I registered my mobile number. When I'm offline, people will see that I'm still available via mobile and can still IM me if needed. I have no plans of using this thing to chat often. Even paying $10 for the extra text messages can go real quick with AIM.

Re: Yahoo Login

To login to yahoo messenger send a text to 92466 (Spells YAHOO)

type "in username password"

Example:

in myusersname 12345

Once you login, a list of online friends will be sent to you. For some reason, Yahoo does not send ALL of your friend list. I have no idea why. This list will have numbers to the side of the usernames

129:myusername
135:hisusername
119:stupidusername

the easiest way to message someone that appears in the list is to send a text to 92466 plus whatever number they are:

To send a test to user hisusername, message

92466135

in the message just type whatever it is u would normally say in the IM

If your friend is offline/invisible or does not appear on the list, you may also send a text to 92466 and in the body of the text, type:

to stupidusername then type your message here.

That should work as best i recall.

To get an updated list of who all is online, send a text to 92466. In that text type only the word "get"

To sign out, type the word "out" and send it to 92466.

I hope this has helped.

What about web-based clients for those with unlimited data plans? I use JiveTalk which enables multiple IM clients.

I'm surprised you'd have an iPhone without unlimited data...(yes, I know about unlocks and stuff...but still....it'd be stupid not to get unlimited data...doesn't make the iPhone worth it at all)

Anyway, the cool thing is that when the AIM client comes out, it most likely won't use texting (unlike every other cell phone out there)...unless AT&T really wants it to:(.

ive been doing this method since i got my iphone in september. the problem is its very hard to use. no buddy list. very inconvenient. yeah it "works" and its "better than nothing" but its not much better.

it often also sends about 4, 8, sometimes 10 of the same message to my buddy i am chatting with because i guess at&t gets confused when im sending and receiving so many text messages in a small amount of time, it hangs up on sending one and will just keep sending it.

im tired of hearing my friends be tired about me sending 10 of the same message too.

I have AIM IM forwarding set up to iPhone. What I do, unless I'm at the computer to send the initial IM via iChat, is log onto JiveTalk for iPhone or FlickIM to view the buddy list, send that initial IM, and log off. I then receive all subsequent IMs as texts when the person responds back.

At least it's good enough until iChat for iPhone arrives.
