Between the risk of damaging the lightning port and hurting the battery with magsafe heat, I chose the first.

Haven’t found problem of any Apple ports for a decade. But heat really concerns me, even I don’t use fast wired charging on daily basis. So I just use wired 5W. Not that terribly slow on 12 mini.

So the only thing that keeping me off from using magsafe is heat. I don’t mind slow charging, and I don’t usually charge while using my phone, so I most probably can use it without magsafe compatible cases.
Is heat an issue with MagSafe? I’ve never heard of wireless charging damaging the phone nor any issues with heat.

There are plenty known reports that magsafe brings warm if not hot temperature. It’s normal for the function.
Even fast charging with 18W and 20W brings heat also.
I personally don’t like heat at all. Excessive heat bad for battery, even though the heat brought by any charging method mentioned are not excessive generally.

There are also some mentioned in this forum that using wireless charging regularly decreases the battery health more significantly than wired. But some also mentioned having perfect battery life while exclusively using wireless charging only. The 5W wired charger doesn’t warms up my mini at all, and that’s what I found to be comfortable for myself.

It's good in my car as a holder/charger, my only use so now, returned the Belkin 3 x magsafe charger.

Using MagSafe ONLY for the car mount (using both Belkin one and Belkin-lookalike on Amazon). Otherwise, i use traditional cable charging.

Like many have said, it's surprising how a device that saves 1 or 2 steps is such a game changer. I have a Qi charger that props up (not lays down) your phone, and it's so convenient to charge up at night and to pick up in the morning. I plan on getting a MagSafe Charger in the future for traveling so I don't have to aim precisely into the lightning port to charge the phone. Besides, I don't know how to do laundry properly because I seem to get an inordinate amount of lint in my pockets that end up in the lightning port and speaker holes. Anybody who knows what I'm doing wrong regarding my laundry, please do interject. Anyway, it sounds crazy that saving a step or two would feel like your life has been significantly improved, I know . . . first world issues, but that's the way I feel.

Best usage case is the type that fits inside a stand for your desk or car dash and secondly it could be nice for those that like landscape mode for games movies during a charge by rotating it.

I use wireless charging exclusively. And also enable the Optimized Battery Charging setting.
Have been since the first enabled iPhone. Each of those I've kept for 2 or 3 years and don't remember "battery health" being below 90% we I upgraded.

I can't remember the last time I plugged a lightning cable into my phone.

I’ve noticed my mini heats up excessively when using a Samsung wireless charger. So hot that the back of my Nomad case is hot to the touch. And that’s a sort of bulky case. I use it on occasion, but have always used wired charging on all my iPhones. I’m afraid wireless charging will degrade the battery life prematurely due to the extra heat. I’ll stick to wired charging for overnight charging and the wireless charger on occasion while I make a pit stop at my desk at work.

Which charger? I have the Samsung leather one, have used it for a few years, kept my 11 pro at 100% after 13 months. Never gets hot and i usually charge overnight, i havn't plugged in except for in a car for years.
Now i have magsafe charger/holder for wireless CarPlay.

edit. could be a mini issue as a small phone/battery.

Man, I honestly can’t remember when I got this charger. I think it was with my note 8? It’s an older charger, very old lol. And I think it may also be a mini issue. When scrolling and reading using some apps the mini gets extremely hot. An app as simple as slick deals makes my mini overheat.

I have just ordered the Belkin 3 x 1 for the third time, Amazon had 30 bucks off here, first one with my 12 seemed to get hot but then cooled as charged, and i wasn't that invested in magsafe so returned it, second one i think was faulty didn't sit level and was hard get the phone off without moving the base.
See what this next one is like with my 12 max lol.

I don’t think so. I. Have it for several months now. It super warm almost too hot. I'm tempted to sell it. It’s not defective as I exchanged it already and it still acts the same. I’m tempted to sell it.
