I've had a 12 mini since it came out and still love it. The Air will likely be my next phone either this year or next year (depends when this phone becomes unusable). It's got the much bigger screen (which my older eyes appreciate), 3x ram, much better processor etc. I'm interested to see reviews in the next couple of months to see how this phone stacks up in real life. If I were to choose this year I'd get the Sky Blue.

Correct, Dave2D (I think) uploaded a video trying to use it on other phones, only fits the Air and its single-camera 'plateau.' (I can't even take myself seriously calling it that)
Yes, that's because of the camera bump being different (smaller thinner) than the other models.

However 9to5 Mac said:
"Apple does say that the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is capable of charging more than iPhone Air.

That’s because its USB-C port allows it to serve as an external battery pack for anything that can connect with a USB-C cable. Its smaller capacity makes it ideal for smaller USB-C accessories, but there’s technically no reason why it couldn’t help power any USB-C device that can charge over a cable with USB-C on one end."

Air 512, silver bumper.. maybe the sky blue, wish it was darker

Yep, battery is slated to be the same as my 16 Pro. The Air Magsafe will only fit the back of the Air, due to sizing.. and I'm ok with a year of one decent camera, but I'll miss the macro for sure

Based on specs, I don't even think I'll grab a screen protector on this one. My concern is how well it'll mount to my MagBak Tesla charger.. I'm sure the magnets can't be as strong, but the phone is lighter. We'll see!

It’s pretty impressive that they’ve managed to pull off the next gen portraits and the ability to turn any object into a portrait (stated in the keynote) with a single camera.

I imagine the sensor is one large enough to create natural bokeh and the power of the A19 Pro & AI will do the rest.

Wow, the single camera lens 17 Air can do this ?

Very nice - never thought portrait quality ability of iPhones.

Always thought I need to use my DSLR with f1.2 lens...

Yes! Up until now only iPhones with two or more cameras could take portraits of anything other than people. iPhone Air can turn anything into a portrait now, even turning a normal photo with a subject/object into a portrait afterwards using the depth information saved from the normal photo.

I was set on getting the Pro Max in orange, but the more I watch Air videos, the more tempting it gets. I’ve always disliked the fat, bulky nature of the Pro iPhones (currently on the 16 Pro Max), so I might go for the Air.

The problem is, if I go to the store on launch day to try them, I’ll most likely miss out on getting one in time. Maybe I should try to pre-order both and decide at home? But then there’s the whole challenge of picking a color! lol

Currently my heart is ruling my decision and I’m going to pre order a Space Black 512gb Air tomorrow! Black is my favourite colour on iPhone, and the Air looks stunning! Easy decision on colour for me 😄

If you pre order both then you can decide, just pick your favourite colour(s)

You know, because of that square sensor - I think I'll actually change my ratio to square permanently. This way I can grab every pixel!

Are the sensors square also on the back for the Pro? Or the one sensor on the back of the Air?

Totally agree. I think a lot of people are sleeping on the Air and have written it off prematurely.

It's the nicest iPhone since iPhone X (possibly even nicer) and it's the most 'Steve Jobs' like phone we've had in a very long time. But it doesn't lose most of the best stuff - ProMotion, the new upgraded front camera, Always On, all day battery.

I'm definitely getting it. The battery is the same as iPhone 16 Pro, and if you carry around the MagSafe battery which is small enough to fit in any old pocket, you can always snap it on when low and the battery then becomes better than a 17 Pro Max.

And the camera is the same 48MP sensor from the Pro phones that most people use, with 2x - you just lose the other two.

My dilemma is colour. I'm thinking of Cloud White to really go back to the old 'iPod nano' days. Matches the MagSafe battery and likely the silver titanium will show the fewest scratches. But then again, the black is verrrryyy stealthy too?

How do people think the polished titanium black sides will hold out to scratches? Will they easily show the natural colour underneath? I never use cases.
I have the exact same problem. I have been using black iPhones since iPhone X and before the keynote I was pretty certain to go with the black iPhone Air. But after I've seen all the hands-on videos popping up, I think I'll do something crazy and actually go with the cloud white this time. It also gives me those nostalgic vibes.
Concerning durability, I think the cloud white one will hold out better.

This is my issue too. I currently have both saved as preorders and have to make a decision tonight, but I'm leaning towards the air. It has all the basic Pro features I need, where the Pro with all it's camera functions, 90% I never even touch, I just don't see the point. So why am I hesitating? The larger screen on the Pro and the battery life.

I think it’s just the new selfie camera with the square sensor

Moving from a black 16 Pro Max to the silver 17 Air. I really dislike the new design of the Pro Max (IMO the ugliest iPhone ever made), and I think the Air is the best looking iPhone in a very long time. The thinness, reduced weight, along with being the “most durable” iPhone yet, makes it a very appealing package to me.

My main hesitation was the camera, but in looking through my photo library, nearly 100% of the photos that are important to me (people pics) were shot on the 24mm camera. So that’s a non-issue.

The other concern was battery life, but in looking at my battery history, I never reach even 50% discharge in a day, so that’s another non-issue for me.

I’ll most likely use this phone without a case, so I’m going with silver, which I think will be the most scratch resistant of the bunch (though my black 16PM is scratch-free after a year).

I have been thinking about battery too. Very rarely am I off the charger. And I like the magsafe battery to keep with me in emergencies, it ruins the form factor of this beautiful phone, but it would be rare occasions that I'd need it.

For colors: I'm drawn to the Cloud White or the Blue.

That leaves me with the screen issue. I was planning on the PM this year for the large screen, I have the regular 16 Pro and it's too small, maybe 6.5 will be the sweet spot?

If you don’t use the Pro camera features, the Air’s a no-brainer—it’s fresher, slimmer, and just prettier. But I use zoom and macro all the time (not just for photos, but also for reading signs, numbers, etc, like from the car when looking for parking signs etc ). but I’m also really attracted to slim and beautiful designs, and since I already bought a 16 Pro Max just 10 months ago, I’d need to be sure it’s really worth paying another £400 (Air) –£600 (Pro max).

My concern is Apples track record of phones running warm. That’s a valid problem that I’ve experienced on a few different iPhone models, especially my current iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The “reason” their giving on the return to Aluminum from Titanium on this years Pro Max is aluminum runs cooler. Making the Air out of Titanium sounds suspicious.

MKBHD just posted a video voicing the same concerns. Once the honeymoon is over the truth may surface.
I'm very curious how it will do with thermals as well, and how much it will have throttle the A19 Pro chip. Considering how thin it is, I would have thought it should have just gotten the regular A19 which I assume produces less heat. But I'm guessing Apple wouldn't have put the Pro chip in it if it wasn't worth it.

I ordered both the Air and a Pro Max (my usual phone choice). I'll return one! Here's my thoughts.

Battery:
- My lifstyle has changed alot, now i'm mostly near a charger/laptop or in the car for long enough periods to charge.
- Charging has become easier, my car and lots of places around my home/office now have magnetic charging where i just drop it on out of habit.
- People are laughing at the magsafe, but seriously there's a big difference between having a battery pack in a bag or another less easily accessible (but easier to carry) pocket than having to carry and look after a thick phone right on you all day.
- I initialliy ordered the apple battery pack, but I see there are much supperior options from companies like Anker, and even Silicon Carbide ones like this:

It's only a matter of time before there's air versions of these. I'd pay more for a thin Silicon Carbide pack because let's face it, we're paying a premium for the size, not the features. I'd pay another premium for a smaller battery pack.

Camera:
I only really take picrures of the other half when she asks, and then i use her phone lol. For everything else a single 48MP is ample. The only thing i'd lose here I think is low light, and those odd ocasions I need zoom. I can live with it.

CPU:
Because of no vapour chamber this phone WILL be slower for sustained usage. However the power in even an A16 is enough for everything, no one really needs an A19 in something like this, unless you play games. So a throttled A19 is still overkill in my eyes. (This obviously is not a hardcore gamers phone)
.
I strongly suspect they put the PRO chip in to make this appear a more pro phone and to give better stats, sustained performance is more murky and most people may not notice that.

This leaves me with my one and only possible dealbreaker....

The speaker! It has a single mono speaker which is the earpiece speaker. This may be a major issue for 'speakerphone' usage, and watching videos. Until I test it I won't know. I'm really dissapointed not a single reviewer tested it after the event 😡

I'll post back when i decide on which one :)

The only camera feature I will miss is the zoom when I'm out of the house, otherwise I use a Pixel for picture taking at home.

And I agree it's a no brainer, my pre-order in Cloud White is complete. I haven't had a white iPhone in years, the 5 or 6 maybe, it's been a while and I'm ready for the change.

What about the loudspeaker? I’m really worried about that :/

Things like YouTube etc, we just take for granted the great sound. It’ll be like going back 5 years. Although I have hopes because it’s pointing at you rather than out away from the phone it may still be ok

I'm hearing impaired and those speakers are useless for me regardless, I use AirPods Max for most things.
