So what's the process to line up on launch day? I've never showed up at a brick and mortar store on launch day before. I missed preorders today because I use cricket and had to figure out what exactly I needed to order since they didn't have plain, SIM free iPhones available. I'm hoping to get one at a store on launch day, but how early should I get there? And once you're in the store how long does it take to buy and get out?

I couldn't wake up at 3am either. I have a 6S+ under the Apple Upgrade Program, so I believe I need to trade it in at one of my local Apple stores. I could have reserved one at 6:30 this morning, but it would have been a color I really didn't want (rose gold or gold). I guess I'll just wait until 8am on the 17th, and try to get a reservation.

Would a walk in later on the 16th even work if I was doing an AUP trade in?

It just rubs me wrong that if we make the effort to get up in the middle of the night... we end up waiting so that someone can walk into a store and walk out with a phone (this didn't happen to me/us this time... we were fortunate with our orders... I'm thinking of other times it's happened and it really did/does irritate me!)
Apple wants you to be that eager. They want all of us that eager. It supports high prices. If we were all smarter and considerably less greedy it wouldn't work for Apple.

Sorry but this time around I said "Meh, not that big a deal". Too many times getting excited about an upgrade that at the end of the day does almost everything the same as the one I had before. Sorry Apple but the hype thing ain't working on me the way it used to.

IMO they will show up in the stores (in limited quantities). Which actually pisses me off! I didn't order, nor did I want Jet Black... but they've done this in the past with the phones and watches.. they cut off the people who get up in the middle of the night to preorder.... and they get these long wait times for orders... but then apple sends the coveted color to the stores.... rather than being first come (i.e. preorderers on line) first served... it's "screw you preorderers" let's give them to the folks who come to the store!

rant over... sorry!!!!
You're right.

I've noticed this, especially in the larger Apple stores in wealthy areas. LA and New York especially. I work both coasts and visit these locations a couple of times each year... They're well stocked.

Not being desperate is another option. By Christmas there will be plenty of stock and choice online and at stores.

What in your life will change for the better getting a new phone 9/16 versus in a few months?

Be honest.

Those that have to wait for the jet black will be happy they did when they see all the people In a month complaining about how scratched up their phone is.

Apple is re-opening in store reservations on the 17th at 8.
Just a few hours ago, apple.com let me reserve an AT&T iPhone 7 128 GB matte black for pickup Sep 16 at the Rosedale Apple store here in the Twin Cities. This phone was also available at the Mall of America store.

Slept through my alarms, first time I've failed this game. What are my options? I'd like to find a 7+ Jet Black.

Should I go on launch day? I live in a major city with a flagship store... People will line up for days... Can't afford to take off work.

Should I just wait until 9/17 and try to "reserve and pickup"? I remember seeing a website that showed inventory by retail location. Does anyone have that link?

What are others doing that have the same situation as I?
Maybe have a family member stand in line for you?

Wait until January. Then you can get whatever you want whenever you want.
This frenzy to get a new phone the day it's released is comical.

I have a 256 gb matte black GSM preordered to deliver by 10-4-10/10. But if the sim free gets released by then I'm either returning it unopened or gonna sell it

Unfortunately, I don't believe this statement. According to Apple's website.

We’re not taking any more reservations to buy iPhone in store right now.

You can visit an Apple Store starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, or shop online now. Reservations will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on September 17.

When was that shown? :S As in the UK here we apparently can't queue as they will have no iPhones :S

I was also surprised in view of Apple's statement.

I'm planning on just getting it in October when the AirPods come out. What's the point in getting this phone if the AirPods aren't even out?

There will be plenty then. They'll have more stock on hand than they know what to do with.

I noticed the same for my local Apple Store in the Apple Store app but after checking with an Apple rep online, she said that they don't have any available in the store for launch day. So, either you lucked out or it's incorrect?
We'll see. I just checked the order status -- it shows "processing items" with pickup on Friday Sep 16 at Rosedale Center.

The ideal time for me would have been 5 or 6AM on Friday morning, local. I wouldn't have had to get up too much early. Do it at 8 or 9 am local, and I'm at work and would have had to do it on my phone when I'm supposed to be working.

The iPhone 7 in my location does show pickup underneath ships 2-3 weeks. The iPhone 7 Plus does not show pickup/reservations. When i looked closer i realized you meant pickup, not reserve. Reservations of iPhone will not go live until Sat 17, but pickups are available at select Apple Stores in your area.
