I've owned a 10" iPad 2 and 3. I got the first gen mini, and sold the 10" ipad, despite the fact that the mini had previous gen hardware. Because it's form factor made it such a better device imo.

Now that the gap has closed, and the mini has the same internal hardware as the full sized ipad, the decision is a no brainer.

I'm 100% the opposite. Was thinking just getting the mini, played with the air today, and ended up with the air.

Not heavy at all, and the full screen size.

Bottom line: do you carry it or carry something holding it

I have an iPad 3 and thought the Air was impressively light and easy to hold. I thought it handled iOS7 better than the 3, and seemed snappier. The Retina screen is great, but the 3 has that as well. In the end, even though it is a bit smaller, it is still too big to put in a jacket or cargo pant pocket. I love my 3, but it requires a bag or backpack to walk around hands-free. For me, that makes the mini Retina something to wait for before buying anything. Of course, 3 weeks is a long time to wait.

See, for me either the Air or the mini would require a bag. Since that's the case, then I'd rather have the device with the slightly bigger screen. I find the Air at just the right size, to be honest. Would be even more thrilled if they cut down another 10% on the weight. But, 1 lb is already excellent.

I'm possibly going to get the iPad Mini. The 32GB wifi + cellular version is the same price as the 16GB iPad Air wifi+ cellular. The mini is a nice size and it has the same specs as the Air. Plus the mini now being retina actually has more pixel density then the Air.

I had the ipad 1, and now the 3.

My daughter bought a mini, and after trying it out I like the overall size and giving serious thought to a retina mini.

I game on the 3, you all with minis, how is the gaming experience?

Pretty terrible, mostly. Unless you play super casual games or ones that don't require a lot of graphic power, because the Mini is basically an iPad 2. I don't really play many games so it doesn't bother me much.

The new Mini will be fine for gaming, very good, in fact.

The iPad Air feels, to me, remarkably smaller than my iPad 3. It's amazing that they both have the same size screen. The iPad Air feels like a bigger iPad mini rather than a "full-size" iPad. I can even two thumb type on the iPad Air in portrait mode - something I could never do on my full-sized iPads.
